We operate over 200 facilities in England, Scotland and Wales and employ around 2,500 employees.

You will be working for our subsidiary company Darrington Quarries Ltd, which is a long established quarrying company operating in Yorkshire. Darrington Quarries has six limestone quarries and one sand quarry they are all situated close to the A1 from Doncaster in the south to Tadcaster in the north.

Role Purpose

Welder / Fitter - Darrington Quarries Ltd.

Key Responsibilities

·  Based at Darrington Quarry but covering the surrounding quarries, the position is varied and exciting with the opportunity to work on a wide range of equipment.
·  Darrington Quarries Ltd cannot afford to have lengthy gaps in production, you will be required to think quickly and find a solution (sometimes temporary) to get them up and running with minimal delay.
·  To undertake the full range of duties of a multi skilled fitter maintaining / repairing all types of plant and attend breakdowns at other quarry sites.
·  To undertake fabrication work and adaptations to equipment as necessary.
·  Have extensive experience using all welding processes.
·  Have experience with tack-welds or welds components and assemblies, using electric, gas, arc, or other welding equipment.

·  Carry out effective planned maintenance, carry out remedial repairs.

·  Attend emergency breakdowns.

·  Mechanical fault find.

·  To work closely with the qualified engineering team and ensure the efficient and effective use of workshop facilities and equipment.
·  Plan your work to minimise waste of raw materials
·  Ensure all the property and equipment you use is maintained and not recklessly damaged
·  When necessary assist in other areas, within your capabilities and training
·  To consistently produce accurate fabrication work to the required quality standard within a given timescale
·  To ensure service and repair targets are met and to help ensure all work is carried out within a realistic time
·  To communicate with external contractors as necessary
·  To record all times and attendance hours to facilitate payment.
·  To keep a record of all work / activities carried out each day
·  To undertake statutory training as may be required.

Qualifications and Experience (preferred)

·  Familiar with industrial mobile and fixed plant

·  Qualified coded welder -trained to the minimumBS4872 qualification for welding vertical up and flat, stick and mig, thickness 8mm and up.

Personal Qualities

·  The candidate will need to be self motivated but also able to work under their own initiative with the team. They should also possess good diagnostic skills and have the ability to provide a logical approach to fault finding.

·  A good communicator and organised

·  Able to diagnose and repair mechanical problems.

·  Experience across a wide variety of machinery.

·  Be a problem solver, able to think on your feet to fix things. You will need a lot of common sense and be able to come up with solutions and ideas of your own.

·  Be confident that you can resolve most problems on your own although you will have back up when required.

·  Willing to work long hours when required.
