Updates on other workgroups
Family workgroup is working on project that would play videos in pediatrician’s office that educates on how to build resilience and promotes having parent speak to pediatrician about toxic stress
Policy workgroup is working on finding funding in order to create a position within the city that would oversee early education and resiliency in the city-an ambassador for young children. The individual would help programs make appropriate referrals, keep a database, and coordinate grants. Group is also looking at possibilities for preschool that was recently purchased by city.
Reminder of 2nd Learning Collaborative on January 23rd at Springfield College
Snow date may no longer be a possibility. Liz did offer space at 280 Chestnut
Face 2 Face Time
Will be unveiled during the 2nd Learning Collaborative
- Core Committee is working on having the message trademarked
- Liz suggested Ellen Freyman and will put Jenise & Joni in contact with her
- Group discussed how this messaging campaign can be utilized to educate and involve parents in building resilience in young children
Project of Trainings on Toxic Stress/Building Resilience
Jessica Wozniak with the Family Advocacy Center currently provides trainings on trauma
- Trainings provided through SAMSA grant and UMass Worcester
- Trainings have been facilitated for therapists, schools, DYS and the court system
- Trainings are scheduled through word of mouth
- Has other facilitators that are bilingual
Train the Trainer
- Jess will look into the possibility of a Train the Trainer w/ UMass so that these trainings can be brought back to group members organizations/agencies and done on a continuous basis
- Suggested that maybe everyone trained makes a commitment of facilitating a certain number of trainings
- Could there be self paced webinars provided to those that are trained in order to update them on changes in trainings and for ongoing support
Trainings for Parents
- May be helpful to have some from an agency trained through Train the Trainer instead of a therapist
- Would need a different format
- Have some focus on parents that have lived through trauma and are now parenting
We will need a positive message to give to providers in order to get them into the trainings
Where do we start?
- Group will create a flow chart with stages to break up organizations/agencies by specialty/practice area
- Idea that it would be easiest to start in our own agencies
Marlene will speak at 2nd Learning Collaborative to share the workgroup’s progress
