Community Standards Officer

Working in a dynamic, cross-functional environment as part of the Community Development Standards Branch and reporting to the Chief Building Official, you have a focus on continuous improvement, quality, and excellence in customer service. You will responsibly and pro-actively administer and enforce Town by-laws, Provincial Acts, and regulations, while working collaboratively to oversee timely response to by-law infractions and complaint resolution. You will also prepare legal procedures and court briefings, collect evidence, and provide evidence in court as required for related infractions. Additionally, you will further assist in issuing business licenses and review by-laws to ensure consistency and relevance to current growth related pressures in the Town.

The Town of Innisfil’s Community Development Standard Branch undertakes a ‘compliance first’ approach to the administration of municipal by-laws and Provincial Acts and regulations. Interested applicants should understand the merits of collaborative thinking and have strong interpersonal and analytical skills to facilitate conversations in difficult situations as well as have a strong sense of community.

You have a community college diploma in the field of law enforcement or a graduate of Police College and/or successful completion of the training systems of the Ontario Police College or other recognized police training facility, the Municipal Law Enforcement Officer’s Association, with a two to three years’ experience, preferably in a municipal environment. A Municipal Law Enforcement Certificate is an asset. Your thorough understanding of municipal by-laws, Provincial Offences Act and their enforcement is coupled with knowledge of court litigation proceedings, and proficiency in Microsoft office suite and database software. A valid Class G driver’s licence is also required, as is the ability to work various shifts. The Town supplies a vehicle for business use. Salary range is from $58,531.00 – $68,744.00 per annum based on a 40-hour work week.
