Grade 6, £21,057 - £22,434 per annum

37 hours per week (including some evening and weekend work by arrangement)

Applications are invited for the post of Community Safety Officer based in the above areas.

The working pattern for the role will be in agreement with the Station Manager responsible for each area and will be flexible to meet the requirements of the role. From time to time, there will be a requirement to undertake some evening and weekend work as part of the normal duties of the role.

The main function of the role will be to carry out Community Safety work in accordance with Occupational Standards. Duties will include informing and educating the community to improve awareness of safety matters, contributing to fire safety solutions to minimise risk in the community and liaising with key agencies through community safety initiatives.

The successful applicant must have proven presentation skills and the ability to communicate effectively to a varied audience together with the ability to plan and co-ordinate projects. You should also be able to use your own initiative, have a flexible approach to working and have good customer care skills. It is an essential role requirement that the post holder has a valid driving licence.

The post is conditioned to the Scheme of Conditions of Service for NJC Local Government Services (Green Book). Benefits include a flexitime scheme, 24 days FTE annual leave entitlement (29 days FTE after 5 years’ continuous service), Local Government Pension Scheme and optional additional benefits.

Pension

The successful applicant will be entitled to become a member of the Local Government Pension Scheme.

It has been agreed that North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service will apply abatement to any role to which a retiree from the Firefighters’ Pensions Scheme is appointed following widening of the discretions available to Fire and Rescue Authorities

Abatement is the process of reducing or stopping a member’s pension if a member retires and then returns to work in the public sector. Government policy is that pension payments should be abated where a member is reemployed in the public sector and receives a pension and salary which exceeds their earnings before retirement.

Anyone in the Local Government Pension Scheme is subject to the rules on abatement if they are re-employed and in receipt of a pension.
