Dear,

We would like you to enjoy your placement and get the best learning experience we can offer you.

Please do not be afraid to ask questions if we do not know the answer we will find out for you.

We have made this pack up for you which we hope will help, however if there is anything you feel we have missed please do not hesitate to let us know as we will adapt this for the next student.

Your working week consists of three full days in this placement with the other two days self-study sessions, the guidance for these are in your student Learning pack.

We would ask you to adhere to the uniform policy (see appendix a) and wear your uniform unless otherwise asked not to. Please note you may come to work and go home in your uniform for the community placement as long as you wear an overcoat.

If you have a personal phone may we ask you to switch this off during your working day unless you have a reason that you need to keep it on silent.

We have no canteen facilities at The Cannons Surgery but do have a staff room with tea and coffee making facilities, a fridge, microwave and toaster if you would like to bring a packed lunch. There are also several shops within walking distance that sell sandwiches etc.

Your mentor may be off duty at some point during your placement, however, please feel free to come to any of the team with any queries.

In the Levenmouth Area we have several Health Centres and although the District Nurses are based at a surgery, we are employed by the NHS. This allows us to be able to work as a large team also to ensure that patient care is met safely, timely and efficiently.

The District Nurses in this area cover the whole of the Levenmouth area as well as some outlying areas such as Lundin Links, Largo, Largoward and Colinsburgh.

History of the Levenmouth area

The area defined as Levenmouth is a relatively new creation. The Towns and villages of Buckhaven, Methil, Methilhill, Leven, East Wemyss, Kennoway and Windygates were once completely independent of one another with very different histories and communities.

Periods of housing development during the 1920s and again the 1950s caused many of these villages to swell and merge into each other. It is hard to define where one town stops and the other begins.

There is a high deprivation in some areas with more affluent areas also

Our Philosophy

We will provide a high standard of nursing care ensuring the patient and their family are involved in the assessment, planning and implementation of their care.

We will effectively collaborate with other professionals and agencies to ensure our patients receive seamless care that meets their needs.

We will strive to treat patients as individuals in their own environment, where we are guests in their homes. Remembering not to be judgemental in any way. Every person is unique and will be treated equally.

Finally people will always remember people who treat them with kindness, respect and dignity and we endeavour to do this at all times.
