Registered Dietitian/Assistant WIC Coordinator

Community Medical Centers, Inc. seeks a FT/R Assistant WIC Coordinator is responsible for assisting the WIC Coordinator in the overall program operations and for providing nutrition education, assessment and services to clients. In the absence of the WIC Coordinator, the Assistant WIC Coordinator is responsible for the overall operations of the WIC program. This position reports directly to the WIC Coordinator.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Registered or registration eligible with the Commission on Dietetic Registration AND a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field
  • At least one (1) year WIC experience, including client assessment, counseling and education
  • At least one (1) year supervisory experience, including employee evaluations, assignments and adherence to program requirements
  • Knowledge of basic nutrition principles
  • Ability to relate to low-income, minority individuals
  • Preference for an individual with the ability to communicate effectively in English/Spanish; written and verbal
  • Valid California driver’s license, proof of insurance and personal transportation

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  • Provide nutrition assessment, education and counseling to participants and/or guardians of the WIC program
  • Participate in or teach group nutrition education activities
  • Identify high risk participants and refer these participants to the WIC dietitian
  • Complete and review forms and enter data into computer
  • Issue food vouchers and instruct participants in their use
  • Assist WIC Coordinator with overall program operations
  • Assumes responsibility of the WIC program in the absence of the WIC Coordinator
  • Assist with scheduling and the coordination of WIC staff
  • Assist with the receipt, distribution, reconciliation, and security of the WIC vouchers
  • Assist in the recruitment, training, development, and supervising of WIC staff members
  • Assist with employee performance appraisals
  • Assist with the preparation of the yearly nutrition education plan and it’s implementation
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required
  • Assist with training and monitoring of staff compliance with OSHA, Blood Borne, CLIA, and safety policies
  • Assist with coordination of WIC outreach activities
  • Attends meetings and trainings as required
  • Assist the WIC Coordinator with special projects and other duties as assigned

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Knowledge of nutrition and dietary principles to assess nutritional needs and to provide counseling and education to WIC participants
  • Knowledge of educational techniques to influence behavior of participants for improved health status
  • Ability to prepare routine records and reports
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees and the public
  • Ability to communicate clearly
  • Ability to identify problems, provide information, and provide alternative solutions
  • Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply appropriate written guidelines and work practices

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Requires frequent walking and standing for prolonged periods of time. Requires sitting for prolonged periods of time. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity necessary to utilize computer keyboard in preparing reports and computing food amounts and nutrients. Requires ability to drive automobile or similar transportation to attend various clinics and other functions. Requires lifting of boxes and papers up to 50 pounds occasionally.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

May be exposed to communicable diseases, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
