COMMUNITY FOUNDATION GREY BRUCE OVERVIEW

Community Foundation Grey Bruce (CFGB) is a charitable public foundation with a mission to enhance the quality of life in Grey and Bruce counties by building endowment funds, providing grants to address local needs, and offering community leadership. CFGB is seeking an energetic Executive Director for its growing operations based in Owen Sound about two hours north of Toronto. The Executive Director position offers an exciting future for the qualified applicant, with opportunity to shape a significant and fast-developing community resource.

CFGB is a forward-looking organization established in 1994 and governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, actively growing its assets that currently stand at more than $15 million dollars. It holds five Community Funds and more than 110 endowed funds, and provides grants to local non-profit organizations serving health, welfare, education, environmental, arts, culture, and sports needs. Granting in 2015, including a significant scholarship component, was approximately $670,000.

PURPOSE

Community Foundation Grey Brucestrives for flexible, transparent governance and leadership practices that welcome volunteer involvement, encourages dialogue among diverse voices in the community; and inspires commitment to philanthropy.

The Foundation’s purpose is to help people realize their philanthropy wishes and enable them to become involved in building their community through endowments.Endowments allow us to fund a multitude of worthy causes. Endowments are pooled so a larger amount can be invested and a maximum return can be created. The investments are managed by professionals and only the earned income is used, the initial principal is not.

Because the initial principal is not touched, we are able to continue providing grants where the funds are most needed. Currently, the Community Foundation Grey Bruce manages $15 million in assets.

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

•Fulfill our mandate by making grants to qualified donees;

•Act as a vehicle for philanthropy and take on the role of community leader in adopting community issues in Grey and Bruce;

•Support social services to advance the welfare of the needy and alleviate human suffering and poverty;

•Assist and promote the arts and cultural activities;

•Advance education by establishing scholarship funds and other specific educational endeavors;

•Support and advance the provision of medical services;

•Support and advance conservation and stewardship of the environment through funding of conservation and environmental projects, facilities and research.

•Encourage and support physical fitness, community activities, and heritage preservation.

•Build the endowment funds, so the Community Foundation can offer more support to worthy community projects;

•Create public awareness and build local ownership of the Foundation.

•Educate allied professionals (lawyers, accountants, clergy, those involved in financial and estate planning), so that they can better serve their clients and build partnerships;

•Assist other charitable groups to build their own endowment funds under CFGB management and consequently increase their sustainability.
