The Fundraising Division

The Fundraising Division is based in London and consists of four teams - Community & Events, Corporate Partnerships, Individual Giving, Major Philanthropy and Data Management and Insight. The total complement of the division is over 50 staff.

Community & Events Team

The Community & Events team offers a range of event activities and community offerings to encourage support of Shelter. These vary from Shelter owned large scale events such as Vertical Rush and Stand up for Shelter, participation in established charity focused events like the London Marathon, community products such as our Shelter Champions and dedicated support packages for community fundraisers organizing their own activities to raise money.

We pride ourselves on a high level of customer service and maintaining the best quality event delivery with an experienced team of fundraisers.

Community and Events Volunteer Role

We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic volunteer that can join us for a three – six month period to support us with our challenge, community and special events which include Vertical Rush, the London Marathon, Stand up for Shelter and supporting community fundraisers. The role will be varied and cover supporter communication and enquiries (by phone, email and on the day), marketing and promotional support, logistical support for all on the day elements along with accurate data management and research.

Travel and lunch expenses will be reimbursed.

Key tasks**
Challenge events (including Vertical Rush, London Marathon, Ride London)

Participant support / Sending out participant communications throughout the event lifecycle, including welcome/race packs and running vests.
Marketing support / Assisting the Event Manager market and promote events.
Event support / Helping with pre-event set up and logistics.
Assisting on event day.
Post event support / Sending out thank you letters to all participants.
Carrying out follow up calls to encourage sponsorship remittance.
Collation of participant feedback forms.
Collation of volunteer feedback forms.
Research / To conduct research when required to support event marketing and logistics.

Community/Special events

Supporter communications / Providing dedicated support to our community fundraisers by communicating with them on the phone/email and writing thank you letters.
Marketing support / Assisting the event manager in marketing and promoting special events.
Data management / Ensuring supporter data is accurately entered onto the supporter database.
Research / Conduct research when required to support community and special events activity.

Support and Supervision

You will be given full support and supervision during your volunteer placement with the Community & Events team. You will be fully briefed at the start of the placement, receive regular one-to-one support meetings throughout your placement and be provided with the training necessary to complete the tasks. The role will give a thorough overview of delivering charity fundraising events and offers a valuable addition to your CV.
