Graduation Requirements

All students are required to complete five courses of study in English, and four courses in Social Studies, Mathematics, Science, and World Language. The student transcript does not list or give credit for Mathematics or World Language courses studied prior

to ninth grade. However, the titles of the courses listed on the transcript can imply successful completion of earlier studies. A minimum of 29 credits is required for graduation and is distributed as follows:

English 5World Language 4

Social Studies 4Fine & Applied Arts 4

Mathematics 4 Health/P.E. 2

Science 4 Other Credits 2

Marking System and Related Procedures

Strath Haven High School operates on a block schedule consisting of two semesters of four 80-minute blocks. A fifth block is used for instrumental and vocal music courses as well as over 100 clubs and activities.

All courses appear on senior mid-year transcripts with grades and an updated gpa listed for fall courses.

Due to the nature of the school community, students work in an intensely competitive and enriched academic environment. Class rank in this context is misleading as an indicator of a student’s ability or motivation for college level academics. Therefore, Strath Haven High School students are not ranked. Grade point averages are computed at the end of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, and at mid-year of grade 12. GPA’s greater than 4.00 are rounded off to 4.00. Honors and Advanced Placement courses are not weighted.
