Community AmbassadorRole Description
Purpose of the role:To raise the profile of Age UK Barnet within Barnet in order to reach new audiences and build relationships with the local community.
We want to make sure that every older person in Barnet knows about the services we offer and how the public can get involved through volunteering/fundraising. We need help spreading the word!
What a volunteer might do:
- Raise awareness of the services delivered by Age UK Barnet and encourage ways to support the charity
- Distribute information and marketing materials
- Attend briefing sessions to be familiar with the services Age UK Barnet provides
- Visit outreach groups eg lunch clubs, coffee mornings, libraries, GP surgeries etc
- Make sure that our posters and leaflets are displayed in relevant places
- Support the Community Engagement Officer to establish relations with the business community
- Telephone and email potential venues to set up meetings
Personal qualities and experience most suited to this role:
- Confident communication skills
- Enjoy meeting new people and sharing information
- Confident learning new information and sharing this with others
- Enthusiastic and Proactive
- Understanding the needs of and be able to empathise with older people
- Reliability and honesty
- Understanding of marketing and communications
- Ability to carry some printed materials such as leaflets, posters etc
Training: Induction session to prepare you for your role, which will include how to use the information resources available. Regular briefing sessions and updates to give you the information you need
Location: Outreach work in various venues around Barnet. Time can also be split between working in our office, (Ann Owens Centre, Oak Lane, East Finchley N2 8LT) and working remotely, supported by email and phone. The volunteer would need computer, and internet access at home.
How much time is involved?The role is flexible and you can be involved as little or as much as you want.
What you can expect from us:
Age UK Barnet will cover agreed out of pocket expenses for volunteers (e.g. travel costs). We will also insure you for personal and public liability for the time you are volunteering with us providing what you do is risk assessed and agreed.
