Community Advisory Council Proposal

Several volunteers met on September 14th in the interest of helping bring back community events to the township . The following is an outline of what the committee hopes to provide under the guidance of the township .

  1. The committee will be comprised of resident volunteers to assist in planning community events. This is a separate committee – not part of Franconia Friends or Hopewell Church .
  2. Suggestions 1 ) Bring Back National Night Out August 2,2016 – Theme Character Counts

2) Celebrate Franconia Heritage – Bring back local Farms/Traditions Etc .

III. The Committee is planning their first event for Tuesday,August 2, 2016 from 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM at the Franconia Community Park, Allentown Rd. Raindate , Thursday , August 4, 2016.

Specifics - Items we will be considering to include are as follows:

*Car Show – in conjunction with Carol Moray

* Keystone Food Collection /Raffle Baskets

*Police Safety Awareness – Fingerprinting etc., D.A.R.E. officer

*Donations for local families struck by violence/fire/etc . – Coordinate with Keystone

*Bike Rodeo

*Children’s Activities – Moon Bounce/Face Paint /Pony Rides , etc.

*Vendors - $25 for 8 foot area – handcrafted local art only

*Food – Good will/Donations/Vendors, partnership with Indian Valley Chamber of Commerce

*Local Businesses/Local agricultural businesses (alpaca, farmer’s market type tables…) – Fee per table – provide advertising on flyer.

*Music

The committee will establish a “Theme “ – such as” Celebrate Franconia” or something similar. While it is the same night as National Night Out – we do not want to fall under that as it requires certain fees and regulations . We chose this night since in many residents are used to this night and it seems to work with schedules. We want to have a variety of things for residents/children to do so that they stay and interact .

  1. Volunteer Committees – The tasks will be broken down into Sub- Committees and staffed with volunteers. It is a big undertaking but together we can make this a success.

  1. Funding – the committee will raise the funds needed for the event. If the township is willing to donate or assist with advertising that would be appreciated.

The funds to organize and implement this event will be raised as follows:

  1. Vendors will pay a $25 fee per 8ft space.
  2. Businesses will pay a $25 fee per 8ft space.
  3. Business sponsors – we will ask businesses to support their community and sponsor the event and be given a sign and advertising on all related materials.
  4. Girls Night Out Bingo Event
  5. Wawa Coupons
  6. Shopping Pass

While this is a large undertaking,we have a very strong group of committee heads that are willing to not only donate their time but their passion to ensure that this endeavor is a success. We are confident we will get additional volunteers to assist.

Most importantly, it is imperative to regain the spirit of the township and it is within the interest of the community to organize such community events – creating a sense of community, pride, and maintaining the historical traditions in which our township was founded. Together, as a township, we have had a difficult year and in the spirit of moving forward and change, the culmination of this Franconia night would signify that positive change is coming to our township and that the township and its representatives are the beacon for that change. We hope with the success of this event we will have a key group of individuals to assist in future events such as celebrating Franconia traditions.

In conclusion, we request the support of the Township and the Board of Supervisors as we begin the planning stages. It will take a good amount of time to get this organized and we will be holding monthly and then bi- monthly meetings within the committee to ensure we are on target .
