Communications Internships at RFE/RL

Want to help us make a difference in places where free media is suppressed or doesn’t exist? Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) is accepting applications for internships on its Communications team, based in Washington, DC and Prague, Czech Republic. Communications Interns have an opportunity to develop their skills by supporting RFE/RL’s Communications team in the following areas:

  • Reporting, drafting and editing of blog posts, press releases,texts for brochures, leaflets, and other products
  • Developing and maintaining RFE/RL’s social media and website presence
  • Promoting RFE/RL journalists and expertise concerning our broadcast audience
  • Supporting RFE/RL’s journalism advocacy efforts
  • Various key administrative tasks, such as the maintenance and update of distribution databases and media lists

Applicants must demonstrate strong writing skillsand be fluent in both written and spoken English. Previous experience/academic expertise in journalism, communications/public relations or public diplomacy preferred, as is fluency in the uses of social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and Pinterest.

Internships last between three and six months, subject to renewal. Interns are eligible to receive a modest stipend, but costs such as transportation, housing, health cost & insurance, and any other living costs will be borne by the successful candidate. An internship does not in any way constitute a commitment to future employment with RFE/RL.

RFE/RL is one of the largest media organizations in the world, providing news and information in 28 languages to 21 countries where a free press is either banned the government or not fully established. More than 400 journalists produce radio and Internet content from our headquarters in Prague, Czech Republic and an extensive network of local bureaus and stringers works in the countries where we broadcast, which include Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, and Russia. Our corporate offices are located in Washington, DC.
