MRS. SCHARNWEBER

WELCOME TO AMERICAN LITERATURE!!This year long class of American Literature will center on literature, composition, grammar and ACT preparation. Presentation and familiarization of literary terminology, figures of speech, reading for information and persuasive writing will be covered.

MAKE UP WORK:

ASSIGNMENTS: If you are absent, it is your responsibility to get your make-up work at the appropriate time (before or after class). You will have the number of days absent plus one to make up work missed during excused absences for full credit. For example, a student who is absent for 2 days, gets 3 school days to make up work.

TESTS AND QUIZZES: If you are absent on a test or quiz day, the student shall make up the quiz/test on the day they return from an absence, either in class, before or after school, or in seminar. If this is not possible, the quiz/test will be made up during the first seminar session after returning from the absence.

LATE WORK:

  1. Late assignments will receive a 20% reduction in grade for every day the assignment is late. (No credit can be earned after 4 days.)
  1. If the assignment was completed during class and is collected at the end of the hour, the assignment will NOT be accepted as late and will receive zero credit.

TARDIES:

You are tardy if you are not in the classroom when the bell rings. Remember, four tardies equals a detention.

PASSES:

You will receive two (4) passes per marking period. Be prepared!

NOTEBOOK/FOLDER:

You are required to bring a notebook or folder to class every day along with your other materials (i.e. textbook, novel, pencil, etc.) In your notebook for Am. Lit. you must keep all notes, assignments, and starters. In other words, everything you do for the class must be included in the notebook.

CLASSROOM RULES:

  1. Be reasonable
  2. Be responsible
  3. Be respectful

We will do a variety of learning activities in American Literature using various methods.
