Communications and Information Officer Job Description

Job Title / Communications and Information Officer
Grade / 2 (£24,528 to £31,398)
Reports to / Media and Campaigns Manager
Relationships / External Affairs and Income Generation teams, including supporting the organisation’s membership schemes, and key stakeholders including journalists, parliamentarians and external suppliers such as freelance writers, designers, bloggers, web hosts and photographers.
Location / London Bridge Office, or other location within the greater London area as required.
Role Purpose / To deliver a wide range of communications activities and projects aimed at external and internal stakeholders and lead on managing our website.

Key tasks and responsibilities

Website

  • Responsible for day to day management of our website.
  • Planning, writing and editing new content for the website.
  • Responsible for updating key content areas of the site, making contact with relevant agencies to ensure accuracy.
  • Increase our presence on digital platforms, including Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn.
  • Gather site performance metrics and information and use Google Analytics to track web traffic.
  • Managing the relationship with web hosting company and manage this effectively.
  • Provide staff training on the website systems and update user friendly support documentation.

Digital campaigns and marketing

  • Assist the Media and Campaigns manager in the development of a digital communications strategy.
  • Coordinate digital campaigns and build engagement with supporters.
  • Optimise on-site content for maximum visibility and ranking in major search engines.
  • Manage and increase in-bound link development from relevant sites and directories.
  • Identify and implement innovative SEO strategies.
  • Produce evaluation reports on digital communications work.
  • Optimise social media engagement based on insight and evidence

Internal and external communications

  • Produce engaging content for other media, including: magazine articles, blogs, information literature, marketing materials, speeches and presentations.
  • Coordinate and produce monthly external e-newsletters.

Brand

  • Ensure that the latest Family and Childcare Trust style and identity guidelines and templates are used and staff are supported to follow them in all communications.
  • Recommend best marketing practice for all external communications for all key projects.
  • Liaise with designers on the production of literature or marketing materials.

Experience of using social media to engage different audiences. / E
Knowledge and understanding of best practice in communication evaluation techniques. / E
Experience of working with brand messages and identity guidelines. / D
Understanding of effective communications approaches for varied audiences ranging from policy makers and parents to childcare providers and employers. / E
Experience of designing, producing and writing content for a range of media, especially online content. / E
Experience of integrating website and digital communications and digital media best practice, including a user-centric approach to content, usability testing and accessibility. / E
Experience in using a wide range of media, including Adobe Creative Suite programmes. / E
Experience of web editing within CMS systems and basic knowledge of HTML. / E
Experience of assessing web traffic metrics and preparing reports, ideally using Google Analytics. / E
Experience in Search Engine Optimisation and using Google Adwords. / E
