Next Meeting with community: Monday, 3 August at Centennial Park/3:00 PM.

Overview and Reminders:

  • Selection: Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson
  • Program Kick Off: 9.21.2009

Summary of staff discussion:

  • Kick off Date: Saturday, 26 September.

Free tea at all locations Monday, September 21.

  • Pam: Pakrams from Ft. Collins

will assist providing cultural artifacts and information. CV’s kickoff is similar to a ‘fair’ with book displays, butter tea activity, regional food and music.

Discussion: Speakers: HPLD rep? Betsy Markey?

  • Cindy passed around handouts, including one that lists number of copies per library for give-aways.

Discussion: With few copies, how best to fairly distribute? Ideas include a raffle, lottery, signup sheet, giving people with holds first choice. Instead of giving them away, can we instead check them out with a Fast Add, such as we do with ILLs? This method may encourage more sharing and would be thematic for our program.

  • Windsor and Dacano partnering with program.
  • Kelli presented poster, brochure and button graphics for feedback and final approval. Kelli announced the project is moving along on schedule, according to the monthly timeline.

Discussion: Can bookmark feature all book discussion? There are 6 more book discussions planned than last year’s Big Read. Should we include labels in books we are giving away? <Yes, Bookmark and label>. Volunteers at CP can attach labels. CP can be “organization headquarters” for distributing, etc. Kelli is trying to fit Spanish translation for brochure, but Spanish takes up more space than English. Poster distribution: who gets what and when.

  • Program discussion: Yak Ranch, Yak booklets, Yak butter churn. Give away mugs and tea? Book raffles in shape of tea bag? Sign up for drawings? Will booksellers offer discounts? Can we sell books under Foundation umbrella? Does part of book sale price go to Pennies for Peace? Can we ask local grocery stores to donate tea for the kickoff?
  • Reader’s Guide: Victoria and Kelli trying to determine best size, format, etc.
  • Waiting for: 1) Greg promised monies for purchasing of books? and 2) Bank of Choice donation.
