American Legion Auxiliary

Open to a graduating senior who will be attending an accredited College, University, or Vocational School. Preference will be given to an applicant that is a child, grandchild, niece or nephew of an American Legion, Sons of an American Legion, Auxiliary member or attended Badger Girls’ State or Badger Boys’ State. An additional essay is required expressing why the student believes he/she should receive the scholarship. Letter of recommendation required.

Barbershoppers Scholarship

Graduating Senior who will be attending an accredited post-secondary school. Preference will be given for student involvement in chorus or band.

Brenengen Ford of Sparta Scholarship

Open to any senior with a minimum of 2.5 GPA and planning to attend a college or technical college. Letter of recommendation required.

Dr. Jack D. Brown Student Athlete MemorialScholarship

Available to any senior who has earned at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA. Two scholarships will be awarded (one female, one male.) Must be planning to attend an accredited post-secondary institution (includes one, two, or four year degree) pursing any health related major. Letter of recommendation required.

Cataract Sportsman Scholarship

Senior student must be pursuing an Associate orBachelor Degree at an accredited 2 or 4 year college/university. Preference will be given to students entering fields of study that relate to the environment, such as agriculture, biology, conservation, and other related fields. A minimum 3.0 GPA is required. Letter of recommendation required.

Class of 1939 & 1989 Scholarship

Graduating senior must be attending a two or four year college. Letter of recommendation required.

Class of 1940 Music Scholarship

Senior student must be going into a music related career in college (teaching, singing, or musical instrument). Letter of recommendation required.

Class of 1969 W. Foster Scholarship

Available to any senior who will be attending Western Technical College in any program. Two scholarships will be awarded (one female, one male).

Class of 1978 Scholarship

Open to a graduating senior from Sparta High School, SAILS, or Sparta High Point. Two letters of recommendation required, only one may be from a Sparta School District staff member. Letters should address participation in activities in school and in the community, financial need, and voluntary service to the community.

Class of 1981 Scholarship

Given to graduating senior student who will be attending an accredited two or four year college. Letter of recommendation required.

Class of 1983 Scholarship

Given to a graduating senior who will be attending an accredited two or four year college.

Class of 1991 Scholarship

Given to a graduating senior who will be attending an accredited two or four year college. Letter of recommendation required.

Erv’s Sparta Area Fire Protection District

The Sparta City Fire Department and Sparta Rural Fire Department are jointly offering a scholarship to a graduating senior who is enrolled in a two or four year program immediately following graduation with intended major in Fire Medic, Fire Protection Engineering Technician, Fire Protection Technician, Fire Science or Paramedic Technician. Letter of recommendation required.

Jason D. Finstad Memorial Scholarship

Senior must be planning to attend a two or four year college in the field of biology, forestry, environmental science, veterinary medicine or a related field. A minimum 2.0GPA is required.One letter of recommendation from a faculty member is also required. Letter of recommendation required.

Tim and Karen Greeno Memorial Scholarship

Open to a senior going to a two or four year college in the health field. Preference will be given to recreational, occupational, physical, speech or music therapy majors.

Singh Grewal Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to a student who has participated in golf while attending SHS and plans to continue his/her education beyond high school. Letter of recommendation required.

Winona Haney Memorial Scholarship

Open to any senior planning to attend a two or four year college who has demonstrated academic achievement, good citizenship, and need.

Dale and Phyllis Harrie Scholarship

Open to a senior who plans on pursuing post-secondary education, with a major in math, science, or engineering that is hard working, determined, has a B average or better, and has taken advanced math, science, and/or engineering classes in high school.

Jackson Electric Cooperative

Available to a graduating senior whose parentsare members of Jackson Electric Cooperative. The award is based on a student's desire to continue his/her education, citizenship/leadership, and need.The recipient must attend the Jackson Electric annual meeting held the last Saturday in March.

Neil R. Jacobs Memorial Scholarship

Senior student must be planning to attend a two or four year college going into an agriculture, mechanics, or aviation. A minimum 2.0 GPA is required.One letter of recommendationfrom a faculty member is also required.

John Janusheske Memorial Scholarship

Senior student must plan to attend a two or four-year college in any field. A minimum 2.2 GPA is required.One letter of recommendation from a faculty member is also required.

Roger A. Johnson Memorial Scholarship

Available to a graduating senior who has participated in wrestling during high school and is planning to attend a two or four year college.An additional essay is required describing "the ways in which wrestling or sports in general will help you be a successful candidate for continuing education". One letter of recommendation from a coach or teacher must also be submitted.

Delores Kenyon Memorial Scholarship

The graduating senior must be going into a declared field of study that helps people with disABIILITIES. Some areas can be, but are not limited to: Special Education Teachers, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Adaptive Recreation, Education Assistant programs, Speech Therapy, etc.

Kiwanis Club Scholarship

Available to any senior going to a technical, two, or four year college.Additional questions are required for this scholarship (see additional materials on main scholarship page). Letter of recommendation required.

William M. (Bill) Klein Memorial Scholarship

Available to any senior with a 2.5 GPA attending a one or two-year technical college or a four-year college in any degree.An additional essay is required: Write an essay directed toward the person who has been the most influential in your life, why they are the most influential, and how they are a role model in encouraging you to seek higher education.

Knights of Pythias

One scholarship will be available for a graduating senior attending a technical college, trade school, or one year school. One scholarship will be available for a graduating senior attending a four year college or university.

Lady Butterfest Scholarship

Open to any male or female senior planning to attend a one or two-year technical college or a four-year college in any degree seeking program. Looking for candidates with strong community involvement, school involvement will also be considered.

Phyllis Lundy Memorial Scholarship

Open to any senior with a 2.5 GPA planning to pursue a degree in educationor medical field at a two or four year college with the intent of obtaining a two or four year degree. Letter of recommendation required.

Masonic Scholarship

Graduating student must be attending a two or four year college.Letter of recommendation required.

Mayo Auxiliary Scholarship

Available to a graduating senior who is going to a technical college or four year university in the area of health sciences or other related field.

Association of the United States Army Major General Robert B. McCoy Scholarship

Open to any graduating senior planning to enroll in a two or four year degree program with a major in Nursing.

Alexander L. Nichols Memorial Scholarship

Open to any senior planning to attend a two or four year college in the fall.

David H. Pederson Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is available to one male and one female graduating senior who participated on the Sparta High School golf team. The applicant must plan to be enrolled in any length post-secondary program and for any field of study.

Prescott O. Piper Memorial Scholarship

Open to any graduating senior with a minimum of 2.5 GPA. May attend a one, two or four year degree program of any major.

Ann & Harold Schendel Memorial Scholarship

Open to any senior attending a two or four year college.

George and Beverley Shiroda Memorial Scholarship

Dr. George Shiroda dedicated his professional life to education, including six years as superintendent of the Sparta Area School District. Following retirement, Dr. Shiroda continued his involvement in education by serving as a board member of the Sparta Public Education Foundation and assisting the Foundation as its first treasurer. George and Beverley were married in 1952. She was a dedicated wife and mother, and established her own successful career in banking. This scholarship was established by the Shiroda family to honor their memory and to support Sparta High School graduates seeking to become educators. Two letters of recommendation required, only one may be from a Sparta School District staff member. Letters should address participation in activities in school and in the community, financial need, and voluntary service to the community.

Sparta Boys' Basketball Club Scholarship

Open to any senior who has completed 3 years of boys' basketball at SHS including their entire senior season. Must be planning to enroll in a two or four year college or university in the fall.Letter of recommendation required.

Sparta Boys Soccer Association Scholarship

Open to any senior who has been a youth player, youth referee, or youth coach that has a 2.5 GPA and plan to attend college or a technical college. (See additional materials on main scholarship page: instructions and evaluation form).An additional essay and application is required.

Sparta Education Association Scholarship

Preference will be given to a candidate majoring in education. Some preference will be given to students of SEA members.Letter of recommendation required.

Sparta Girls Soccer Association Scholarship

Sparta Grid-Iron Booster Club Scholarship

This scholarship is open to seniors planning to continue their education beyond high school. Applicants must have participated in Sparta football for at least three years, including their senior year.Letter of recommendation required.

Sparta Lions Club Scholarship

Senior student must be going into field related to the common goals of the Lions Club (people with vision problems, or with physical or mental handicaps).Letter of recommendation required.

Sparta Public Education Foundation Scholarship

Open to a graduating senior from Sparta High School, SAILS, or Sparta High Point. Two letters of recommendation required, only one may be from a Sparta School District staff member. Letters should address participation in activities in school and in the community, financial need, and voluntary service to the community.

Sparta Rod & Gun Club Scholarship

The applicant must intend to enroll in a 2 or 4 year institution of higher education and pursue a career in a field of study related to: environmental studies, natural resource management, wildlife management, ecology, conservation, forestry, land management, etc. Awardee must achieve a grade point average (GPA) in the first semester of college of at least a 3.0 and submit an official transcript depicting the GPA and the classes taken.

Tilling Thyme

Open to any senior enteringHorticulture, Environmental Science, or a program in a related field. An additional essay is required about the applicant’s goals and how their course of study will help to improve the land/environment. Letter of recommendation required.

Byron Tucker Memorial Scholarship

Student must be planning to attend a four-year college with athletic participation considered.

Wendell Tucker Memorial Scholarship

Senior student must attend a two or four year college in the field of agriculture or building trades.

US Silica Scholarship

Open to a graduating senior with a 3.0 GPA or higher planning to enroll in a two or four year program who has demonstrated an interest in engineering, intends to pursue an engineering degree, and displays strong leadership skills. Mark Wall Memorial Scholarship

Open to any senior with a GPA of 2.75 or higher and pursuing a career in health care. An additional essay and letter of recommendation are required.
