COMMITTEE/HONORARY POST

ROLE DESCRIPTION

Role Title / Clinical Lead - Case Studies For Continued Professional Development (CPD) eLearning Resource
Reporting to / Education Resources Adviser
Faculty Development Tier (educational roles only) / Tier 4
Duration and Dates of Appointment / The successful applicant will begin the role immediately upon appointment. The appointment is honorary and will last for 3 years.
Purpose and Description of Role
As part of the ongoing development of StratOG, we are in the process of developing a bank of case studies for consultants in O&G to use for their CPD.
The Clinical Lead (preferably with a special interest in knowledge-based assessment for CPD and eLearning) will continue to drive this project forward and lead the recruitment of authors (Members and Fellows of the College) who will write case studies (with the aim of launching 10 case studies per year).
Cases will follow a standard template and cover a range of topics across the O&G spectrum. There are three possible templates for the case study authors: clinical skills, generic skills and professionalism cases. Clinical skills cases need to contain 15-20 multiple-choice assessment questions in order for the learner to be eligible for CPD points in the Knowledge-based Assessment category. Generic/professionalism cases may contain formative assessments, but CPD is claimed for the reflection component only.
The Clinical Lead will work with the eLearning team to recruit and appoint authors to write and peer-review original content for the case studies and assist with longer term updates of the case studies. Regular updates of the case studies will be essential to keep the content up-to-date and relevant.

  2. To provide ongoing clinical support and guidance to the eLearning team and authors in the development of new eLearning CPD case studies.
  3. To regularly review the appointment of authors in line with RCOG policy, to ensure that sufficient suitably qualified members are in place to produce the case studies.
  4. To review the first draft of case studies submitted by authors and provide constructive feedback for their improvement.
  5. To give final approval of all CPD case studies, working with the authors to ensure finished case studies are accurate and written in concise English.
  6. To liaise with the eLearning editor on matters relating to author recruitment, commissioning of case studies and their review.
  7. To work with the eLearning team to ensure that the CPD resource is sustainable in the long-term.
