Men’s Game of the Week – KodeRed vs. Zephyrs

KodeRed entered the A/B division championship game boasting the largest winning margin in the league, so it wouldn’t of been a surprise to see this game get out of hand. Not so fast. This game got downright gritty, with each team fighting for every loose ball and point. KodeRed did manage to win the Championship, but it came down to the final seconds as they escaped with a one point lead. KodeRed’s Jones and Zephyrs’ Beeman were the only players in double digits with 12 points apiece. A/B division MVP Danny Lopez put in a big defensive effort and added 8 points for KodeRed.

Ladies Game of the Week – Lightning vs. Angels

Been there, done that, right? Hardly. No matter the setting or time, these two teams go at it hard against each other. After winning the first game of the season with tough defense, the Angels lost the next two in high scoring routs. In the championship, the Angels key to the game was accomplished as they set the pace, but the Lightning’s Johnson had other intentions. Johnson’s 11 points were significant, because no other person on either team recorded more than 8 points! The Angels set the tone, but the Lightning are hoisting the trophy. Congratulations to Denise Stubbs on her MVP. She was a huge contributor to the Lightning’s season.

Men’s Legend of the Week –Ghods (Sharks)

Ghod’s put up some redivulous numbers this season on his way to earning the MVP of the 19+ division, but his latest performance yielded the Tridents helpless in the 19+ championship. His 27 points not only an individual Legends week high, but he helped his team score a team Legends week high 69 points!

Other Stars in No Particular Order:

1)Simmons/Ruzic (Spartans) – Their combined 30 points led a balanced offensive attack for the Spartans that had the Blades on their heels all night.

2)Ammoury (Sharks) – Ghods scored 27, but Ammoury wasn’t far behind with 23!

3)White (FullThrottle) – His 15 points led the way for FullThrottle in the A division championship.

4)Thys (Blades) – Thys did everything he could to keep up with the Spartans offense, leading the Blades with 16 points.

Ladies Legend of the Week – Johnson (Lightning)

Without Johnson’s 11 points, the Lightning lose this game. In a low scoring game, she stepped up and slammed the door on the Angels title hopes. Denise Stubbs was the MVP of their season, but you could call Johnson their playoff MVP. She scored 32 points the week before in their semifinal victory over the Thunder!

Other Stars in No Particular Order:

1)Petty (Angels) – Petty fought hard for the Angels, contributing 8 points.

2)Pierce/Pictroski (Lightning) – Johnson led the way, but the Power P’s combined for 13 crucial points!

Highlights

Spartans / Facing their toughest competition of the season, the Spartans looked flawless. They finished the season undefeated, leading the league in scoring at 69 points a game, and representing the Elite division as champions! Simmons and Ruzic led the scoring with 16 and 14 points respectively, while Elite Division MVP Cooper put up 11.
Blades / The Blades finished the season/postseason with an 8-2 record in the Elite division. That is no small feat. They are a great team that fell just short of an even greater team. They averaged 61 points a game, but the Blades were best known for their defense. They tied for best in the Elite division with the Ninja at a tough 48 points per game.
FullThrottle / Facing the unbeaten Supermen in the A division championship, FullThrottle never waivered. They beat Supermen up and down the court on offense and defense on their way to the 17 point stomping! A Division MVP White led the scoring with 15 points, while Maynard contributed 11. FullThrottle led the A division in scoring with 57 points.
Supermen / The championship game was not the story book ending they hoped for, and that’s saying it lightly. Despite the loss, Supermen should be proud of their season. They led the A division in winning percentage (8-1 overall record), and average winning margin at an 11 points per game clip.
KodeRed / See Above. KodeRed finished with an overall winning record of 8-1, while leading the A/B division with some tough defense, only letting up 38 points per game!
Zephyrs / See Above. The Zephyrs season was very hot and cold. They started out hot, followed by a cold spell, and then finished playing their best basketball of the season. In the end, they fell just one point shy. In addition to Beeman’s 12 points, Posv and Rehberger each put up 9 points in the final game.
Hoosiers / The Hoosiers are champions of the B division! They beat the Pounders in overwhelming fashion behind a very balanced offensive attack that has become their trademark. Michalski, B division MVP Mosher, and Brandmark scored 15, 13, and 11 points respectively in the championship. They finished tied for the most wins this season in Legends ball with a 9-2 record, and they clearly were the best team in the B division ranking #1 in defense and offense (53 ppg points for, 37 ppg points against).
Pounders / The manner in which they lost in the championship against the Hoosiers wasn’t pretty, but their journey to the championship was impressive. Despite finishing with an overall 5-6 record and averaging a losing points differential of 8 points per game, the Pounders can claim rights to 2nd place in the B division! Siddiqui and Schummel scored 10 and 8 points respectively in the championship.
Lightning / See Above. After getting their championship hopes crushed by the Angels in the spring, the Lightning have to be relishing their sweet revenge. They led the Women’s division in scoring at 46 points per game, and winning percentage (7-2 overall record).
Angels / See Above. The Angels finished the season with an impressive 7-3 overall record. Unfortunately, those three losses were against the same Lightning team that ended their repeat championship dreams. The were the best defensive team in the Woman’s division, letting up only 34 points per game.
Sharks / The 19+ division came to be known for it’s high scoring shootouts, and leading the way were the Sharks at an incredible 61 points per game. The championship was no different as they scored 69 points in their defeat of the Tridents. 19+ division MVP Ghods and Ammoury combined for 50 points!
Tridents / The Tridents scored the third highest Legends team point total during the championship week. Unfortunately for them, the Sharks were number 1! They finished the season with a .500 record (5-5 overall), averaging 57 points per game, while letting up 55 per game. Matthews and Julien scored 20 and 17 points respectively in the final game.
