BRIXTON - COMMENTS FROM THE “YES” RESPONSES ON QUESTIONNAIRES

Many have been killed on that part of the A379

Very much needed - very dangerous road people have been killed on this road

Ideal for guests walking home from weddings (dangerous dip in main road).

Many have been killed or injured on that part ofthe A379

Walks are better in Yealmpton than Brixton without car you get fed up the way the bus service operates time you wait for a bus to come you could have walked to Yealmpton or Brixton. No busses after 7 0' clock I ask you!

I have 3 children wonderful for seeing their school friends safely.

I would not use the path but for safety I think it is a good idea. Proving it used by enough people to warrant the cost and upkeep and don't become a rubbish dump.

Yealmpton Show

It will remove the danger to pedestrians & cyclists using the road at present - and encourage interaction between residents of both villages.

Mobility. Cycle to work

Cycle to work and pleasure. Excellent for the environment and health

The children would like to cycle we have no car

I use this road walking and had some near misses by not being hit by lorrys - cars would like to ride my bike

Only one car driver out of six in my family due to cost we may have to sell the car, this would let us cycle to do our shopping due to the prices of petrol and taxes. Very much needed

Play area, circular safe walking route, Riverford cafe

SAFETY keep cyclists off this dangerous stretch of road. But upgrade existing footpath from Kitley to Yealmpton for cyclists.

Very much needed we all cycle, people have been killed on the A379 between this point

There have been pedestrians killed on that part of the road very necessary

Pedestrians have been killed on the A379

Pedestrains have been killed on this road, much needed, the Sustrans route is too far and very lonely to walk & we would not feel safe on our own.

Urgently needed

Many cycle to work in Yealmpton, many have been killed on this road or badly injured. Many have to walk or cycle on this very dangerous road including Jack to walk to bowls and see friends

If I can ever get an electric wheelchair

NEEDED WE HAVE NO CARS AND THERE ARE 3 IN FAMILY.

We use the Brixton to Elburton cycle path but at the Elburton end it is quite boggy and needs cleaning.

Keep the Yealm unspoilt for local people NO TO SUSTR-ANS

Exercise and Leisure.

This path is very much needed

We strongly agree with this path

A much needed facility between two fully functional villages separated by an extremely dangerous road.

The road is very dangerous to walk, lives have been lost!

Ideally the path should have lighting

A bridle path would be much appreciated - very dangerous to ride along the A379

I live in Brixton and my business premises are in Yealmpton

Use power assisted pedal cycle

Whilst I would support such a proposal for others in the community I would not myself use such a path because of my age and impaired walking ability.

My daughter could cycle for her work

Accessing safer horse riding bridle ways

On that part of the road pedestrians have been killed, cannot walk to doctors on this road, we have no car

On this part of the A379 a relation of mine pedestrian was killed plus I have heard of more that have been hurt and killed we feel this cycle path is very much needed. The cycle path would be a safe way for Scouts to get to their club in Brixton also school friends to be able to meet safely after school for both villages. Young mums with buggies, people with mobility difficulties & many more people from Brixton, their human right is to be able to walk to their doctor & dentist safely this would improve their health & environment also reduce the use of the car with the price of petrol. Many people cannot drive or even afford a car and the busses are not reliable. We feel as a family the Sustrans track is too remote for young people to use on their own or even a woman on her own and we are all very concerned about the wildlife down by the Yealm.

It is obvious to me that a footpath between Brixton - Kitley is necessary. This would be direct and complement the Erme - Plymtrail + proposed cycle path

YEALMPTON - COMMENTS FROM THE “YES” RESPONSES ON QUESTIONNAIRES

Urgently needed

Safe much needed

Yealmpton Parish Council should look after the community and not Sustrans who will ruin the environment with tarmac - parking. We like the tranquility of & peace of the Yealm. Mobility difficulties in our family we do not have a car would help a lot not Sustrans who will ruin the environment with tarmac

Prefer Sustrans plan along the old railway

As a driver I would feel much happier not seeing walkers on this road, especially in poor weather & night time.

Safer walking the dog. Joining up the footpaths between the villages.

We do this path, whist use may initially limited, as fuel availability and price increase so will the use of the path.

I know people have been killed on that part of the 379 - needed

From Brixton Red Lion Hill to Yealm Park the bus fare £1.50 per person my family could walk.

Dear Steering Group, what a lovely idea, just what is needed. I know it will take a lot of thinking about but please take account of the danger of nasty events to our children en route. Perhaps street lighting could be obtained. Good luck and may I bless all the committee for pushing ahead.

Very urgently needed we saw a mobility trike using this part of the very dangerous part of the A379.

I nearly hit someone on this very badly lit road lives should be put before money very much needed.

Long overdue.

Long overdue.

Mobility help

Greatly needed

Access Brixton footpaths

Bridal path would be nice

Promoting Health pursuits

More as the children grow older and can walk/ride bike for longer

We would bike to work

If missed local transport. I am a Dartmouth bus driver who drives late at night. Please can anybody seriously neglect a path on reasonable grounds? I have seen many occasions where people either cannot afford a taxi, or who have missed local transport attempt to walk on the roads from Plymouth to Brixton and Yealmpton I am amazed that they attempt this?! The roads are narrow dark and many blind spots. Please let there not be just one accident to do something about it, let common sense reign please before something happens when it could have been prevented.

Cycle to Plymouth from Yealmpton, safer quicker

We would like to walk at Steer Point and see the wild life in the quiet unspoilt Yealm. We do not want Sustrans. Keep it local

Much needed. Yealmpton Council should have done it years ago and look after Yealmpton people. We also like-the peace of the Yealm & not Sustrans.

Should have been done years ago, lives would have been saved.

Good for the environment dangerous A379

A dangerous piece of road. Have seen an electric wheel chair on the road recently. This path could save a life being wasted in a fatal accident that could happen.

We think it is a much better (safer) option than the proposed estuary route.

Mother was in Venn Court

GREATLY NEEDED I have special needs - cannot drive

If this doesn't happen there will be more serious accidents cycling between Yealmpton and Brixton. I have special learning needs and can't drive. If I could cycle to work it would be great.

Commuting into Plymouth by bicycle, cycling to the shops in Plymstock

To join cycle network, to walk/cycle to Plymouth safely

Greatly needed as I don't drive. I do not drive so it would be essential and I would also be able to cycle safely as I have special needs.

Cycling - if allowed, but would be happy if it was just for walking.

I am too old to use the path but it would be a fine thing for the two villages

We have 3 children which would happily use the multi path to meet up with friends. Giving children a safe route to use

Needed from Yeo Park

Greatly needed

Safety + Health reasons - walking locally in safety to as many areas I can healthily and in safety for a single woman

Somewhere different to go on my mobility scooter. It would get me out & about so that I wouldn't feel so shut in. I am totally dependent on my scooter as I can only walk a few yards & I don't drive

To stop pedestrian accidents on the existing road.

I would be able to cycle to work there have been people killed on that road. Its good to see Brixton P.C. are helping Yealmpton people

I think this would be a valuable asset to both communities.

Keep the Yealm for local people we do not want this part of Yea Imp ton and Brixton Steer Point spoilt.

This cycle track would be life saving environmentally friendly. NO to Sustrans as our Yealm is peaceful with wonderful wildlife. No to tarmac parking in our villages bikes are allover the country

ASAP

To cycle to Plymouth using cycle path at Brixton

I FEEL THERE HAS BEEN A GREAT NEED FOR A PATH FOR A LONG TIME. ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS WE HAVE SEEN YOUNG PEOPLE WALKING LATE AT NIGHT - LET'S NOT WAIT FOR A NASTY ACCIDENT TO HAPPEN! IT WILL CHEAPER IN THE LONG RUN FOR ALL, & 'GREENER-ENVIRONMENTALLY FREIENDLY!

Far better route than the old railway

Needed people have been killed on this part of the road

EXCELLENT IDEA - KEEP ON WITH THE GOOD WORK

Safe & Good for our children

Needed

THE NEED FOR A PATH IS AS GREAT IF NOT GREATER THAN THE NEED FOR EXTENDED DISCUSSION AND PROTRACTED MEETINGS

Safer than Estuary route

Commute to Plymouth on my bike

Needed keep up the good work

I support the proposal as it would be a valuable village amenity but I would personally be unlikely to use it

Wheelchair user having another path to use for recreation

To make the A379 safer by removing pedestrians & cyclists from this extremely dangerous stretch of road.

Going to the garden centre at Brixton

Who would pay for building it?

ONLY IF NOT IN OPPOSTION TO THE SUSTRANS PATH ON THE OLD RAILWAY TRACK

Friends to meet after school

Getting to Garage. Great Idea - Thank you for your efforts

Bridle path & Tuscany's (dancing)

Mixed use can be confrontational & possibly dangerous unless properly delineated.

We probably would not use it but think it's a good idea

I would still like & use the Sustrans Cycle Route proposed down the estuary and would support that more

ONLY IF IT DID NOT IMPEDE ROAD TRAFFIC OR THE FUTURE DEVELOPMENT OR WIDENING OF THE A 379

Only support this path if it is in ADDITION to not INSTEAD of the path along the estuary following railway line

Not at the expense of the flat estuary route which has great amenity value (also sent a letter)

4 times a day as my son attends school in Brixton and we live in Yealmpton. Also there would be occasions for visiting friends

Would prefer route via cylinder bridges

Friends to meet after school

BRIXTON – THERE WERE NO COMMENTS FROM THE “NO” RESPONSES ON QUESTIONNAIRES

YEALMPTON – COMMENTS FROM THE “NO” RESPONSES ON QUESTIONNAIRES

NOT AT ALL - A COMPLETE WASTE OF COUNCIL TAX MONEY WHICH IS ALREADY TOO HIGH. BETIER SPENT ON SERVICES WITHIN THE COMMUNITY.

Too close to A379 for recreational walking. Many country footpaths exist. Do not like the idea of hard surfaced routes (too 'urban')

Too old to use the road

Absolutely and vehemently no. THIS WOULD BE A TOTAL WASTE OF TAX PAYERS MONEY, THERE ARE ENOUGH FOOTPATHS, TRACKS ALREADY IN YEALMPTON WHICH PEOPLE ABUSE I.E. RIDING BIKES, PRACTISING GOLF HC THIS WOULD BE ANOTHER BLOT ON THE LANDSCAPE OF YEALMPTON BY TARMAClNG, FENCING CUTIING UP BEAUTIFUL LAND. HOW OFTEN WOULD THIS PATH BE USED? RARELY. HOW BIG AN EYESORE WOULD THIS BE ON THE LANDSCAPE. WHAT COST TO THE TAXPAYER? HAVING LIVED NEXTDOOR TO ONE OF THE MANY FOOTPATHS IN YEALMPTON I HAVE WITNESSED THE TOTAL MISUSE OF THESE PAPTHS AND EXPERIENCED ON A REGULAR BASIS TOTAL MISUSE OF FOOTPATHS, e.g. NOISE, CHASING LIVESTOCK, PUSH BIKES, MOTOR BIKES, NIGHT RUNNERS MAKING A GOD AWFUL RACKET, CHILDREN BREAKING TREES & YOUNG SAPLlNGS,UNFORTUNATELY ONLY A HANDFUL OF SENSIBLE WALKERS (AND I DON'T MEAN GROUPS OF RAMBLERS) USE PATHS FOR THEIR PROPER PURPOSE, TO ENJOY THE COUNTRYSIDE IN A QUIET MANNER WITH RESPECT FOR LIVESTOCK AND IN PARTICULAR WILDLIFE. I AM TOTALLY AGAINST ANOTHER TRACK/PATH BEING CUT INTO THE LAND WHICH NO ONE WILL USE. PLEASE TRY AND KEEP YEALMPTON A VILLAGE AND NOT A MULTI CULTURE, POLITICALLY CORRECT KEEP EVERYONE HAPPY EXCEPT THE TRADITIONAL BRITISH, INNER CITY.

PLEASE ABORT THIS PROJECT USE MONEY MORE WISELY

NO, WE SUPPORT SUSTRANS FOLLOWING THE YEALM ESTUARY IN PREFERNCE TO THE A379 ROUTE.

How much is this going to cost and who is to pay? It would be better to spend money on our own path between Yealmbridge and Yealmpton. The hedge is hanging over it and you have to walk in single file. This path seems to of more use to Brixton residents coming to Yealmpton than the other way about. Who is going to pay for and maintain the path? If the footpath from Yealmpton to Yealmbridge is anything to go by, no one will. We are always complaining about the state of the path and nothing gets done. We find it hard to believe that anyone will want push a wheel chair up and down gradients involved on such a path. Another white elephant could be on the cards like the Yealmbridge Hydroelectric plan. It would be more sensible to concentrate on the Sustrans route already in hand.
