Dear Parents and Guardians,

The students in Concert Choir, Women’s Choir, Show Choir, Acappella Choir, Marching Band, and Jazz Band go on a competition trip in April. This year we will be traveling to Norfolk, Virginia. The students will have the opportunity to compete, work with a music clinician, explore Norfolk and surrounding areas, and experience the Virginia International Tattoo. It is a nice way for the students to create lasting bonds and to enhance their learning experiences. Information follows:

Place: Norfolk, Virginia

Date: Thursday, April 26 – Sunday, April 29, 2018

Cost:$625 per student

Includes: Round trip motor coach transportation, 3 nights lodging at the Sheraton Norfolk Waterside Hotel (or similar),private nighttime security, 3 full American breakfast buffet at the hotel, Spirit of Norfolk Dinner Dance Cruise, Entrance to Busch Gardens, Meal coupon for Busch Gardens, Participation in 65th Parade of Nations, Performance/adjudication/clinic in Chrysler Hall, Complete insurance.

Checks are the preferred form of deposits. These large deposits must be given to either Mr. Perdonior Mrs. Bolton in person. DO NOT leave envelopes on desks or on pianos. Students may still make smaller deposits into the cash box in room 148.

All students that are in both Band and Choir must give trip deposits to Mrs. Bolton for bookkeeping purposes. Thank you!

Trip

The Music Department Directors want to insure that this is a great trip for each and every one of you. With large groups, order is important. Rules are necessary to guarantee your safety and the success of the organization. Please understand that these guidelines are for everyone. Do not elect to ignore any of these regulations. We want you to have a good, safe and educational trip.

Behavior Contract

  1. Students will be expected to follow the specified rules as set by Colonia High School and the Woodbridge Township Board of Education.
  1. Directors and Chaperones have the right to search luggage and rooms at any given time (even in the middle of the night).
  1. Students are expected to dress in a manner which will represent the school appropriately. This means no overly revealing clothing and clothing with inappropriate statements on them. The Directors reserve the right to ask students to change their clothing if we deem it to be inappropriate.
  1. Students will not possess or use alcoholic beverages and illegal substances. Students will be sent home for an infraction of this rule at the expense of the parents.
  1. Students will display good sportsmanship throughout the entire trip. Be mindful of what you say and how you say it.
  1. Students will be responsible for their own equipment. Please be sure that your luggage, garment bags and equipment have your name, Colonia High School Music Department and the school phone number (732-726-7048)) written on them in an obvious place.
  1. Students will behave appropriately on the bus, including the following:
  2. Treat the bus driver with respect and be very courteous to them.
  3. Take all items off the bus as needed each day.
  4. The bus is to be kept clean at all times. There are garbage bags, paper towels and air freshener sprays provided – use them.
  5. There is to be no flash photography on the busses, especially at night. The reflection is extremely dangerous for the driver.
  1. Students will respect the wishes of the Chaperone that has been appointed to them for this trip. This includes the following:
  • Students must give their cell phone numbers to their assigned Chaperone.
  • Students will be given checkpoints when away from the hotel. They must meet their assigned Chaperone at these times.
  • Whenever the group gathers, students must check in AND REMAIN with their assigned Chaperone.
  1. Students are expected to follow the itinerary of each day’s scheduled events as told to them the prior evening by their assigned chaperone. Please take note of the times and attire. Be EARLY for everything. Late students take away from everyone’s free time.
  1. Students will not leave assigned areas without prior consent from one of the Directors.
  1. If any student requires medical assistance, he/she should go to the nearest first aid station in the park. At the beginning of the day, familiarize yourself with the first aid stations by looking at a park map. If we are not in the theme park that day, the student must contact their chaperone immediately.
  1. There will be extra security at the hotel and at the park. Please be prepared to be searched. Listen to and respect people at all times.
  1. Students must respect the hotel rules and regulations listed as follows:
  • Quiet hours are from 10pm until 9am. Please be mindful of the other guests in the hotel.
  • Smoking is not permitted.
  • Do not make outside phone calls from your room phones. You may only use those phones to call room to room.
  • Do not destroy the rooms. Students will be individually responsible for any missing towels, or other items, and for any damage to the room.
  • Boys and girls will not be allowed in each other’s hotel rooms after curfew. During free time at the hotel, if boys and girls are in the same room, the door must be propped open and the window shades pulled open as well.
  • Work out schedules for the showers, especially since there are four of you in each room. Please bathe!!
  1. Students are expected to be in their rooms at bed check. Also, no one, under any circumstances, is to leave the room after bed check. In an emergency during the night, students are to call their assigned chaperone or one of the directors.
  1. Respect the rules – respect others – Remember you are representing all of us and Colonia High School!
  1. If infractions are made, it will be at the discretion of the Directors to determine what action will be taken.

Action may include:

  • Room assignment change
  • Bus assignment change
  • Disciplinary Action taken upon arrival to school after the trip
  • Student will be sent home at parents’ expense
