Title: Health Promotion & Volunteer Coordinator (England)

Responsible to:Health Promotion Manager

Direct Reports: No direct reports

Hours: 35 hours a week (9am-5pm) Some evening and weekend work is required

Contract: Permanent

Salary: £24,000

Annual leave: 25 days a year plus bank holidays (plus 3 days between Christmas and New Year)

We do this through raising awareness, providing information and education for people affected by bowel cancer and health care professionals, and campaigning for best treatment and care.

About the post

This post sits within the Services Department and is responsible to the Health Promotion Manager.

The Health Promotion and Volunteer Coordinator will be responsible for supporting the Charity's health promotion and outreach activity in England. The postholder will have significant responsibility for the administration of health promotion and outreach activities, particularly in relation to promoting and organising awareness events. The post holder will support existing volunteers and work closely with the Health Promotion Officer and Health Promotion Manager in the recruitment and training of new volunteers- and will coordinate all volunteer-led awareness activity in the region.

Working closely with the Health Promotion and Outreach Officer, the post-holder will ensure that our health promotion and outreach programme is targeted at key stakeholder groups, for example, health service and social care professionals, employers, community groups as well as high risk and disadvantaged communities. As required, the post holder will also deliver awareness messages, for example, by giving talks or managing information stands. The post-holder will also assist with the day-to-day running of the health promotion department- for example, responding to general queries, ensuring calendars and event log spreadsheets are up to date, helping with post and mail-outs, sending out volunteers’ supporting materials, inputting data into the charity’s databases, producing monthly data reports and monitoring volunteer activity.

The role also carries the responsibility for responding to all volunteer enquiries and applications as they come in, ensuring that potential volunteers have all the relevant information and forms, and that application and signposting processes are adhered to.

Responsibilities

Health Promotion & Outreach

Working closely with the Health Promotion and Outreach Officer:

  • Oversee all administrative aspects of the Health Promotion and Outreach programme in England - including booking arrangements, coordination with volunteers, recording and reporting on activity
  • Develop relationships and networks with key stakeholders and target groups to promote the Charity's Health Promotion and Outreach programme in England, including community groups, employers, health and social care as well as high risk and disadvantaged communities
  • Provide support to existing awareness volunteers, for example, by being the first point of contact and coordinating with volunteers to deliver outreach activity
  • Provide support for the recruitment and training of newvolunteers
  • As required, deliver awareness talks or attend information stands

Volunteer Application Coordination

  • Be responsible for responding to and processing all the charity’s volunteer applications, including sending application forms and role descriptions and requesting references
  • Ensure that applicants details are entered and stored in the appropriate databases
  • Signpost new volunteers to the Health Promotion and Outreach Officer, Fundraising or other appropriate departments.

Profile raising & external representation

  • Identify, make introductions and build relationships with relevant community groups as well as health service and social care organisations, employers and other charities
  • Identify and build on opportunities to represent the organisation through attendance at appropriate community and health information events
  • Attend relevant conferences, networking and development events

General

  • Provide general administrative support to the health promotion department, for example, answering general queries, inputting to Charity data-bases, like Raisers Edge and other general duties as required
  • Keep informed of current developments in the field of colorectal and general cancer, health and lifestyle, government and voluntary sector
  • Respond to all e-mail and written requests according to agreed guidelines and within stated timeframe
  • Participate in all relevant meetings of the charity as appropriate
  • Ensure data is handled within the recommendations of the Data Protection Act
  • General service administration duties as required
  • Maintain confidentiality of information as per the BCUK policy
  • Attend internal/ external training courses as appropriate
