PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The primary purpose of the role of Course Coordinator (FS) is to:

  • To ensure the delivery of a quality learning experience to all learners and to promote and deliver high standards of delivering Functional Skills
  • Monitor Initial and Diagnostic assessments and work with Apprenticeship Coordinators to ensure students are placed in the right groups and on the right qualifications.
  • Work with programme teams to ensure that Functional Skills are delivered within the relevant context in vocational areas where possible;
  • To coordinate and manage Functional Skills exams
  • To work with Head of English, Maths & ICT (Apprenticeships) in arranging cover for absences.
  • Monitor student attendance, punctuality and other disciplinary issues and refer as appropriate to Apprenticeship Coordinators.
  • Monitor quality of Functional Skills teacher folders.
  • Carry out internal verification and standardisation activities.
  • Arrange holiday and half term workshops in collaboration with Apprenticeship Coordinators and employers.

MAIN ACTIVITIES

1Teaching and Related Activities

1.1Undertake 700 teaching hours of Functional Skills teaching per academic year.

1.2Undertake associated organisational /administrative work, together with preparation and marking associated with timetabled work.

1.3Undertake related appropriate learner recruitment, welfare and academic counseling.

1.4To take part in learner recruitment when required - including carrying out initial and diagnostic assessments at induction.

1.4Act as a mentor to others involved in teaching, learning and assessment.

2Curriculum Development

2.1Working with course teams in vocational areas, participate in the identification of consumer requirements, plan, develop, monitor and evaluate courses and course materials.

2.2Work with relevant curriculum teams to facilitate and support strategies to raise retention and achievements of learners.

2.3Work with individuals and teams to promote the development and shared use of a range of high quality teaching and learning materials, including online materials, to contribute to learning resources.

2.4Be a member of appropriate curriculum area and cross college curriculum forums.

2.5 Participate in maths & English and vocational team meetings and staff development activities.

3Performance Management and Professional Development

3.1Participate in the Appraisal scheme. Undertake in-service training based on an agreed assessment of individual and service needs.

3.3If required, undertake lesson observation of members in the curriculum team and provide constructive and developmental feedback.

3.4Act as a teaching and learning mentor to colleagues where required, especially those new to teaching and those in areas with satisfactory inspection grades.

3.5Work with individual maths & English lecturers to facilitate and support the improvement of standards, teaching, learning and assessment.

4Leadership, Management/Administration

4.1To be responsible for the co-ordination of the delivery of maths & English within apprenticeships, ensuring that assessments, enrolments and examination entries are carried out effectively.

4.2Participate in the organisational and administrative work of the appropriate course team(s).

4.3 Liaise with the apprenticeship department for scheduling of sessions to support learner achievement

5Computerised Management Information System

5.1In collaboration with course team colleagues, other appropriate staff and CIS,

ensure that accurate, complete and up-to-date data is input onto the

corporate database and other information storage and retrieval systems.

5.2Monitor and update tracking and progress of learners using BKSB and e-portfolio systems

5.3Comply with the Data Protection Act.

6.General

6.1Comply with health and safety legislation and EC Directives. Co-operate fully with the Health & Safety Manager

6.2Comply with all college policies, including the policy to promote equality of opportunity

6.3Undertake such duties and/or hours of work as may reasonably be required of you, commensurate with your pay band and general level of responsibility, at your main place of work or at any other establishment for which the college provides services.

6.4Undertake relevant continuous professional development and update CV accordingly on an annual basis.

Have a degree or equivalent qualification in the subject relevant to the course to be delivered / E / √ / √

EXPERIENCE
Have recent and relevant experience of teaching English and Mathsat Level 1 and Level 2 / E / √ / √ / √ / √
Have recent and relevant experience of teaching ICT to learners at Level 1 and Level 2 / D
