The III semester MBA programme students are requested to prepare assignments for the topics given below and submit the same to the office of the Coordinators of College of Engineering College study centre on or before 5.30 PM, 15th July 2010.

  2. a sample FIRST PAGE of a subject is attached for your reference. Use the same template for all the subjects.
  3. The last date for the submission of assignment is 6th December 2009.Minimum page of the each assignment of any subject should be 5 pages.
  4. Assignments of all subjects should be submitted at the same time and acknowledgement will be given.
  5. Assignments will be collected only at CEG study centre office which is located above the CEG canteen.
  6. Only hand written assignments will be accepted.

1) Two firms are competing for business. Whatever firms A gains firm B loses. The table below shows advertising strategies of the firms and the utilities to firm A for various market shares in percentages (assuming this to be a zero sum game)

2) Following mortality rates have been observed for a certain type of fuses.

There are 1000 fuses in use and it costs Rs. 5 to replace an individual fuse. If all fuses were replaced simultaneously it would cost Rs. 1.25 per fuse. It is proposed to replace all fuses at fixed intervals of time, whether or not they have burnt out, and to continue replacing burnt out fuses as they fail. At what intervals the group replacement should be made? Also prove that this optimal policy is superior to the straight forward policy of replacing each fuse only when it fails.
