Dear Parent/Guardian:
Hello. My name is Deborah Veith, and I am the Director of the Liberty Partnerships Program based at our partner higher educational institution, SUNY Cobleskill. Your child has been recommended to participate in this program. Therefore, let me tell you a little about it.
The Liberty Partnerships Program (LPP) has been around since the early 1990s. It serves students who need assistance in completing homework, preparing for tests, getting organized, and thinking about and planning ahead for life after graduation. In an effort to keep students engaged in school and resulting in a successful graduation, we have a tutor/mentor in the school with whom your child will be working as regularly as his or her schedule allows. We employ a variety of methods to assist program participants, including tutoring and mentoring, goal setting, informational presentations on college and career preparation, job shadowing, and college and career site visitations. We also provide opportunities for skill development in areas of leadership and service learning. As the parent/guardian of a LPP student, you will be invited to attend workshops on such topics as financial aid, preparing for college, and motivating youth toward academic achievement. You may also ask to be included in any college trips we take, and we will make every effort to accommodate you. Once a student is in LPP, they are eligible to take advantage of our services through graduation and, if possible, the first year of college.
