COLLEGE APPLICATION TO DO LIST

Application:

Using a specific college’s application online or paper version:

1)Complete student part of application. This will probably include information about awards and activities as well as essays. Give yourself time to do a good job. Remember to include the application fee if requested. Send in by due date. Deadlines are critical. Be sure to print out all Teacher Recommendation Forms and School/Counselor Report Forms

2)Check your application to see if your college needs SAT or ACT scores sent directly from the test company to your college (most do require this) at the time you register for the test you can designate up to four schools to receive your scores. If you do not request them at the time you take the test, you will need to contact the College Board for the SAT or the American College Testing Company for the ACT to have them sent. This involves a fee. Web address: and It can take up to 3-5 weeks so have them sent early.

3)Complete the top of the secondary school /counselor report form of the college application. Bring this part of the application, along with a 9x12 manila envelope with 4 stamps to Mrs. Wolanski in the counseling office. You will need to fill out a transcript request form. You must bring this into the counseling officeatleast three weeks (15 working days) before the application is due. We cannot guarantee your application will arrive on time to the college if you do not give the counseling office at least three weeks to process it.

Using the Online Common Application:

1)Complete student part of application.

2)Counselor and teachers will complete their recommendations online. You will need to provide your counselor’s email address and teacher’s email address.

3)Make sure you have contacted your teachers and they have agreed to write a letter of recommendation for you before you provide their email address.

4)Counselors will need the Green Sheet information packet completed by you for their recommendation

5)You must complete a transcript request form for each college with Mrs. Wolanski in the counseling officein order to have your transcript submitted.

Items 3, 4, and 5 must be completed at least three weeks (15 working days) before the application due date.

Letters of Recommendation (if required):

Counselor letter:

1)Give your counselor at least three weeks prior to application due date to write your letter of recommendation. On a sheet of paper write the answers to the questions listed on the attached green sheet and return to your counselor or Mrs. Wolanski.

2)Counselors also need feedback from two to four teachers to write a comprehensive recommendation. Give out between two to four of the attached white Teacher Evaluation Forms to any teachers who are not writing your formal teacher evaluation letter. Ask for them to be returned to your counselor. Give them a due date prior to your application due date so that your counselor has the information for his/her recommendation.

Teacher letters:

1)Colleges also may require a letter from one or two teachers. Provide the teacher with the Teacher Evaluation Recommendation Form if there is one. Ask your teacher if they require any additional information from you in order to write the letter. Direct them to send the letter to Mrs. Wolanski in the counseling office before the due date. If they are completing an online recommendation, ask them to send a copy of their recommendation to counseling as well.
