Project (System) Development Cycle
Understand the problem
- Read the project brief and think about what you will need to do. Write out a short problem statement clearly describing what you plan to do.
- Develop a Gantt Chartas the basis for your project.
- Collate your problem statement and project plan. This known as your Requirements Report. Due week 1
Making Decisions
- Most projects have a range of constraints associated with them. These constraints typically fall into one of four main categories: economic or financial; organisational, technical and scheduling
- For this project there are no financial constraints. If you do not have a video camera you can use the school’s. From a technical perspective you may need some instruction on how to use a camera, transfer the video to the computer and use. Your teacher will provide this instruction if needed. From an organizational perspective you may need to allocate tasks within your group. From a scheduling perspective you will need to keep your eye on your Gantt chart to make sure you stay on track. You may also need to book access to the video camera if you don’t have one of your own.
- During this phase it would be a good idea to use the camera to make a simple prototype of your movie. All this needs to be is a few seconds of video that you collect, transmit to the computer and analyse using movie maker.
- When you have completed your prototype. Submit a simple Feasibility Report advising that you know how to use the Camera and movie Maker to produce a movie. End of Week 1 or start of Week 2.
Designing the Solution & Making the movie presentation
- Plan your movie using a Linear Storyboard.
- Submit your movie storyboard as your Design Report. Due Mid Week 2.
- Collect, store ,transmit & receive, organize and analyse images, sounds and text using MS Movie Maker,
Implementing
Transmit your movie to the teacher as directed. Due by end of Week 3.
Testing, Evaluating and Maintaining
Check that your movie functions as intended on the teacher’s laptop computer. Due by end of Week 3. Display movie for final evaluation using the overhead digital projector. (During week 4). Consider entering your movie in a school or external showing. This may require future adjustments (maintaining) to your product to meet changing requirements or needs.
