3 on 3 Youth Basketball Tournament

Rules and Regulations

Normal rules apply except for the following:

General Play

  1. All teams are guaranteed 3 games.
  2. Awards will be given to 1st and 2nd place finishers in each division.
  3. Teams must furnish their own warm-up basketballs. A game ball will be supplied by the CRD.

Scoring

  1. Field goal is worth 1 point.
  2. Field goal from the 3 point line is worth 2 points.
  3. All games go to 15 points or 15 minutes, whichever comes first.
  4. Clock runs continuously even through time outs.

Rules

  1. Coin flip determines opening possession and home team. Officials will report this to the score keepers.
  2. An official women’s basketball will be used for all divisions.
  3. Possession changes on scores.
  4. Ball must checked by an opposing player before being put into play. No delayed checking.
  5. All non-shooting fouls, violations, and out of bounds balls will be checked at the top of the key.
  6. Both feet must be behind the top of the key for a take back or check.
  7. No more than 4 players can be on a roster. *KSHAA rules state no more than 3 players from the same school can be on a team for 7th-8th graders. All players’ guardians must sign a release form prior to competition.
  8. All players must be on the roster by the tournament deadline. One player can be exchanged on the roster up until the first game, due to illness or injury only. Players can participate on only one team.
  9. Jump balls will be alternating.
  10. In case of overtime, winners will be determined by a free throw shoot. The 6 players on the court at the end of regulation will alternate shooting free throws to determine a winner. Home team shoots first.
  11. Pool Play tie breakers will be decided by 1. head to head 2. total points scored in all games 3. least points allowed in all games 4. coin flip.
  12. No coaches allowed on floor or bench.

Timeouts/Substitutions

  1. Each team is allowed one 30 second timeout per game. No timeouts can be called during the last minute of play.
  2. A team must have possession of the ball to call a timeout.
  3. If play is stopped by injury, injured player must sit out until next dead ball. Time will be stopped for an injury.
  4. Player may substitute at any dead ball.

Fouls and Violations

  1. Shooting fouls will result in a free throw shot and possession of the ball for a foul on a 1 point field goal. Two free throw shots will be awarded for a foul on a 2 point field goal. For a foul on a made shot, the basket will count and the player will get one free throw. If time runs out during a free throw, the free throw is allowed.
  2. Any player misconduct or flagrant foul may result in ejection from the game and possible dismissal from the tournament at the official and tournament director’s discretion.
  3. Players will foul out with 5 fouls.
  4. 3 second violation will be called in addition to all other normal basketball violations.
