Development _ Progress
·  Jim Wilson – the liaison point for the developments was in the school discussing the changes. There were concerns over the proposed lowering of the ceiling and curtaining round the assembly hall. The council reiterated that they were looking for a curtain round the door only and the proposed changes sounded expensive. Costing yet to be decided but final estimates to be with school by now., It was highlighted also best value be at the heart of the procurement process and that the 500k be maximised.
·  With this money it is hoped that the Foyer – which is always brimming full of people – will be updated.
·  For the primary there will be a classroom, ICT and multipurpose room to be developed.
·  For secondary there is hoped that there will be a room big enough for exams and out with exam periods used for fitness or movement. SG raised an issue regarding both girls and boys changing for PE in the same classroom. DMcC agreed to look into it further but it was agreed that mixed changing in primary was common practice throughout primary schools.

·  DMcC informed the group that she is still in talks with HR regarding supply staff and raised the issue that there is a shortage of Gaelic Secondary teachers.
·  It is against HR regulations to specify for Gaelic speakers only in the job ad so this creates difficulty in that people with no Gaelic at all can apply. Parents expressed concern that the Gaelic will therefore be diluted if non-Gaelic speakers are filling posts. Although the interview outlines an expectation of the teacher learning Gaelic, there is no money to pay for training and there is no guarantee that the staff will keep up learning in the facilities available.
It was agreed that this should be within Bòrd na Gàidhlig’s remit and a meeting is to be set up to discuss. DI to action.
·  So far, there has been 58 primary requests – but it could go as high as 71.
·  For secondary, there are34 requests so far.

·  The issue of PE was raised. There was concern that one parent has been told that their child is not getting the required amount of sports. RM to look into and respond.
·  AM voiced concern over the dilution of Gaelic due to the lack of Gaelic teachers. Parents were reminded that it was of utmost importance for them to learn as much/often as they can to have the language outside the classroom. Parent council to clarify what they want from Bord na Gaidhlig in terms of learning provisions and what can be delivered.
