Coelacanth membership has grown once again this year and we have achievedour goal of 120 members. Most have renewed or joined, for the season 2013/14, and we are still growing. Thanks to the leaflets that SAMS supplied, encouraging new swimmers to join and thank you to those members who recruit. Well done to you all!! Keep it up!!

PAST EVENTS: Rietvlei Game Reserve Mid-winter Picnic Braai: This was once again well attended. Frost-Bite Galas: It is great to take part in Mid-winter in the warm Wahoo Pool. Coelacanths/Tshwane Winter Challenge: We had a lovely sunny, warm day at Hillcrest, lots of prizes were given out, and a lot of fun was had by all. Thank you to all who contributed to this cause, an amount of R3,500.00 was collected, for Irene Homes. Evening get-to-gether:Thanks to Kim for organizing once again at Ocean Basket Menlyn. It is always great to meet up in winter and catch up with all the news. Swim Trek Tour: Marieke, Danie, Kim, Terry, Sabine, Steve, Sandra, Anja, Annemarie, Marli Hannah, Gustav and Terry Papadopoulos all had a wonderful experience, swimming in the Greek waters. Coelacanths 1500:Again we had about 70 participants. The Hillcrest pool and the weather,were perfect for the swim, and again lots of chatting and laughing took place amongst our members and with our Gauteng Masters friends. Sun City Swim:The club helped with the marking of swimmers at the dam and the club was paid out a nice sum of R3,900. This was such a team event and was such fun for all. Thank you again for all those who volunteered to help. Inter-Regional Gala:Coelacanths came out tops again as the club with the most points. We need Tshwane Masters to hold on to the shield this season 2013/2014. Please support the 2nd leg on March 1st, venue to be confirmed by Gauteng. Thank you to the ladies who brought such delicious salads. Results of galas, including SAMS Short Champs are now on Thank you John Petersen. Open Water Swims:There is such a choice of swims taking place all over the country. NTS champs on the 30th Nov, Heia Safari and ‘challenge swims’ to qualify for Midmar. Good luck to all!!

UP-COMING EVENTS:

KZN Open Water Champs: 15th December, Albert Falls.

6 Hour Endurance held by E.T. Stingrays: 11th January 2014, Hillcrest Pool.

This event consists of a team of 4, starting at 8h00 and ending at 14h00.

20 teams are allocated, 2 teams per lane. A braai afterwards is supplied by ET.

Roode 1000: Badja Dam, Bronkhorstpruit on the 19th January, 2013. Entries have already been sent out to all. If you need an entry form, contact Joyce.

Time Freight Lake Heritage: Muldersdrift, 18th Jan, 2014, 3k and 5k. 19th Jan, 1,200m and 500m.

Platinum Mile: Buffelspoort, 2nd Feb, 2014. 1,500m

Midmar Dam Swim: Midmar, 8th, 9th, 10th February, 2014

Tshwane LC Champs: 20th February, 2014, long distances. Hillcrest Pool.

22nd February, 2014 Short distances Hillcrest Pool.

Inter-Regional 2nd Leg: 1st March, 2014, venue to be advised.

BLOEMFONTEIN NATIONALS 11TH TO 16TH MARCH, 2014.

The Bloemfontein committee are busy preparing a fantastic event for us all.

It is the 30th South African Masters Nationals championships.. Please make sure that you have all confirmed and paid your deposits for accommodation yourselves. We are hoping to have a big team present and take the cup back from Cape Town. Yeh!! Cut-off for entries is the 28th January, 2014 to reach

The entry forms have been sent out to all. Please indicate on your form if you are available for relays. We will be at DSG every Tuesday from 5.30 to 7 on. Please get your entries in as soon as possible. Also you may bring them along on the braai night on the 3rd December to DSG Pool, or on the Xmas Braai night which will be at Rita and Francois house in Arcadia on the 10th December, 2013. Invitations to all have been sent out. Please RSVP if attending, for seating purposes. Contact Joyce for further info if needed.

KIT:

We have received the swimming caps. We are giving away as always, an Orange T-Shirt and a cap for all new members. We also received more shorts, all sizes including 2xl, logo and zip pocket.

There are still plenty of Coelacanths costumes available for sale. They are endurance costumes and are comfortable and look fantastic on, men and women!!
