Minutes of the Meeting of the Codnor Parish Council held in

Peverel House, Mill Lane, Codnor

Monday – 12th July 2010

PRESENT:Councillors G Parkes, C Emmas-Williams, I Fisher, R Abel, Mrs C Cox, P Smith, Mrs M Parkes, A Longdon, Mrs H Longdon.

104/10QUALITY COUNCIL STATUS AWARD

Mr Brian Wood, Secretary Treasurer of the Derbyshire Association of Local Councils formally introduced Mr Alan Cooke, Member of the Quality Council Accreditation Panel who presented

the Chairman, Councillor George Parkes, with a certificate to endorse that Codnor Parish Council had been awarded Quality Council Status based on the works carried out by the Parish Council.

105/10PUBLIC

a A complaint had been received regarding the poor condition of some footpaths due to weeds in the village. Councillor Parkes responded saying that these footpaths had been identified during the last litter pick and that Councillor Emmas-Williams and himself would register this matter with the Borough Council.

b In response to an enquiry regarding repair of the footpath Jessop Street to West Hill the public were advised that Amber ValleyBorough Council were responsible and that the developers of the land off Hollywell Avenue would rectify the footpath.

cThe Parish Council had been informed that there had been an attempted break-in at the Jessop Street Allotments and that this had been reported to the police with a crime number issued. The public were advised that installation of new fencing was being considered for the next financial year.

d The public were advised that besides the Parish Clerk and Councillors, issues could be raised with the appropriate authorities. Contact details could be found on the Annual Report. Further copies available from the Clerk.

106/10POLICE

The police reported that anti-social behaviour had risen slightly. Two Codnor youths had been caught stealing from Codnor Tesco Express.Young people were gathering around the chip shop. Police to monitor area.

RESOLVED that the Minutes of the Parish Council Meeting held 7th June 2010were accepted and dulysigned by theChairman.

111/10CHAIRMAN’S REPORT

aThe litter pick in the village on Saturday, 3rd July2010 was a success with Councillors and the Scouts taking part.

b Dog fouling was again becoming a major concern. Members and the public were asked to contact the Chairman if they witness owners not clearing up after their dogs fouling.

112/10BAND CONCERT – HIGHFIELDS COMMUNITY CENTRE

Several emails had been received praising the Band Concert featuring the Newstead Brass Band and the singing Quartet, Farenheit held on Sunday 27th June 2010 at the Highields Community Centre. Sponsorship money and proceeds from the refreshment sales would be presented in a cheque to The National Autistic Society at a date to be confirmed.

113/10PARISH WEBSITE

RESOLVED that Mr Hemsell, would be paid £100 annually to cover the cost of maintaining the new Parish Website.

114/10CLOCKBUILDING

The Parish Warden has reported electrical problems in the Clock Building, Market Place, Codnor. Members considered two quotes and accepted the quote fromDerbyshire Electrical. Also, due to vandalism a small amount of plumbing work was also required.

RESOLVED that the Clerk place orders for works to be completed.

115/10CAR PARK – ALFRETON ROAD, CODNOR

Amber Valley Borough Council has given notice that they wish to proceed with the transfer of ownership of the Alfreton Road Car Park to Codnor Parish Council.

RESOLVED that the Clerk arrange for Ellis, Fermor & Negus, Solicitors to undertake the work on the Council’s behalf.

116/10QUARTERLY NEWSLETTER

RESOLVED that the newsletter be printed and distributed to designated collection points.

117/10 CORRESPONDENCE

a Alfreton Town Council – Reactivating the Eastern Wards Regeneration Group

RESOLVED that the Clerk notify Alfreton Town Council that Councillor George Parkes and Ian Fisher would represent Codnor Parish Council and Councillor Chris Emmas- Williams Codnor Parish Council/Amber Valley Borough Council.

b Derbyshire County Council has submitted a revised quotation for the installation of the

Mining Wheel.

RESOLVED that the quote be accepted and an order be placed for the work to be completed when proceeds from the sale of Land at Hollywell Avenue had been received.
