DESCRIPTION OF WORK.-MAIN ACTIVITIES:
The work will be carried out in the surroundings of the Plaza Alta, located in the southern part of the ‘Fortaleza de la Mota’ Historical Site.
Field activities:
Location, cleaning and exhumation of archaeological remains in the intervention area.
Documentation, cleaning and consolidation.
Application of preventive conservation measures in the affected areas.
LABORATORY ACTIVITIES:
Classification, cleaning and washing of the pieces in situ and laboratory analysis.
Graphic, photographic and computer records of the pieces found.
COMPLEMENTARY ACTIVITIES:
Excursions and visits: Almazara and Quesería, cultural route through Alcalá la Real, Córdoba, Monachil (Sierra Nevada) and Granada (Alhambra, Albaicín).
Sports activities
Workshops: restoration, masks and fancy dress, foam rubber figures.
Social and cultural activities: games, parties.
Involvement in the activities organised by the Town Council of Alcalá la Real.

LOCATION.- Alcalá la Real is located 75 km. from Jaén, and 57 km. from Granada. The Castle of la Mota is an ancien moslem fortress, rebuilt between XIII and XV centuries. With its rich history and beautiful surrounds, the fortress is of both historic and environmental importance. Of further significance is its location on the important cultural route, ´Ruta del Califato del Legado Andalusí”.

Archaeological jobs entailing cleaning and itemising structures
that make up the amphitheatre building.
Planimetric and photographic documentation.
Completing a diagnosis file.
COMPLEMENTARY ACTIVITIES.-
Workshops: sexuality, photo developing, etc.
Nature tours: rappell, trekking and canoeing.
Sports activities and swimming pool.
Animation activities: group dynamics, night outings, cinema,

Excursions and visits: Itálica’s archaeological sites, Sevilla

LOCATION.- Santiponce, with a population of approx. 7.600
inhabitants, is situated 7 Km. from the city of Sevilla. It was
built almost entirely on the ruins of the Roman city ‘Itálica’
towards the end of the 16th Century, and occupies the ancient
city’s original nucleus. A major part of Itálica unfolds in the
subsoil of the town’s historical centre. The city, founded by
Escipion in the year 206 B.C., was in fact the first Roman city
in the Iberian peninsula. Today we can admire remains of
extraordinary value: its ‘houses’ with beautiful mosaics, still
paved ‘streets’, ‘original’ sewers, ‘thermae’ and, above all, a
magnificent amphitheatre, the Roman Empire’s third largest in
capacity. Likewise, the monastery San Isidoro del Campo is also
worth highlighting, housing extraordinary 17th and 18th Century
works of art.

Production of informative materials: preparation of leaflets.
Organisation and staging of the Day of Rivers as an activity
aimed at encouraging conservation and providing information about
the natural and cultural assets of the riverside area of
Algarinejo.
COMPLEMENTARY ACTIVITIES.-
Excursions and visits: Motefrío - Alhama de Granada - Loja, route
Parque Cesna-Pantano de Iznajar, Granada, local routes.
Workshops: environmental awareness (night-time bird listening,
health food shops, recycling, etc), ethnology (routes: Los
Molinos, Los Castillejos, etc.), artistic, social and cultural
activities (theatre, kites, balloon twisting, etc).
Films, music and games evenings.
LOCATION.- Algarinejo is a town located in the region of the
‘Montes Occidentales’ in the province of Granada, 75 km away from
said capital. Half of its population, estimated at more than 5000
inhabitants, lives in the countryside or the villages of Fuente
de Cesna and Carrera de la Viña. The entire municipality offers
great potential for the development of rural tourism, due to its
way of life and geographical location. The area has an important
river system which runs between abrupt limestone formations and
is of great ecological and scenic interest. It also possesses
considerable cultural heritage, since there are monuments and
sites of interest to be found throughout the municipality. The
work will be carried out in Arroyo Morales, 1 km away from the
town.
ACCOMMODATION/FOOD.- State School “Andrés Manjón” – Mesón street,
s/n – Algarinejo (Granada).
TRAVELLING INSTRUCTIONS.- By bus from Granada, Málaga and Sevilla
to Loja (ALSINA GRAELLS Company).
MEETING POINT.- The first day, from 12.00 to 14.00, in the bus
stop or railway station of Loja. The volunteers will be
transfered by bus from Loja to Algarinejo.

LOCATION.- Purchena, in the interior of Almería province, is at
the heart of the valley of the river Almanzora, 110 km from
Almería city. It is a village with a long and rich history and
unique traditions. To stroll through its streets is to discover a
history marked by three cultures: Semitic, Arab and Christian,
and to behold spectacular views of a village nestled between two
mountain ranges: Sierra Filabres and Sierra Estancias. Its
notable buildings include the Church of San Ginés, declared a
historic monument, and the archaeological site of Los Churuletes,
a fortified town in the Bronze Age.
TRAVELLING INSTRUCTIONS.- Bus from Almería (Timetable: 14.00)
(ALSA-ENATCAR bus company). The organization will collect
volunteers, coming from Almería, at 16:15, in the bus station of
Olula del Río and take them to Purchena.
Bus from Granada (AlLSINA GRAELLS bus company).
MEETING POINT.- Volunteers should arrive the first day at the
Town Hall of Purchena.

COMPLEMENTARY ACTIVITIES.-
Workshops: way-finding, juggling, handicrafts, flora and fauna,
medicinal plants, body-handling and story-telling.
Sports activities: cycling, introduction to abseiling and
mountaineering, archery, trekking, canoeing and way-finding
races.
Excursions and visits: Natural Park Visitor Centre, climb to El
Picacho, Cádiz, Jerez de la Frontera, Bolonia beach and Roman
ruins of Baelo Claudia.
Games and social evenings.
LOCATION.- In the north of the “Los Alcornocales” NaturalPark in
the Sierra del Aljibe (Cadiz). This park, covering 170,025 ha, is
one of the chief wooded areas in Andalucia, with some of the
largest cork oak woods in the world along with discreet groves of
muricated oak and river woodland that give us an idea of what the
primitive Iberian forests would have been like. In addition to
the region’s natural interest there is the archaeological,
traditional and historical appeal of the Campo de Gibraltar area.

Alcalá-Puerto de Gáliz km 13. - Alcalá de los Gazules (Cádiz).
TRAVELLING INSTRUCTIONS. Bus from Sevilla, Algeciras and Jerez de

To highlight the decorative caliphate. materials. cleaning,
ordering and restoring the arabesque.
Reconstruction of decorative caliphate archaeological material.
Visit to the different departments of the Archaeological complex
of Madinat Al-Zahra to discover the internal work and the phases
undertaken in its conservation and restoration.
COMPLEMENTARY ACTIVITIES.-
Excursions and visits: area of Madinat Al-Zahara (bridges,
aqueducts, al-Rumaniyya, quarries, etc.), Cordoba (monuments,
museums, districts (barrios) etc), Granada (Alhambra palace,
Albaycín), Archaeological site of Baelo Caudia, Bolonia beach,
Sierra de Hornachuelos mountains. Activities to learn more about:
Al-Andaluz, Cordoba, Madinat Al-Zahra.

ACCOMMODATION.- Instalación Juvenil “Córdoba - Plaza Juda Levi

LOCATION.- In the archaeological site of Madinat Al-Zahra located
on the Palma de Río road, some 10mk. From Cordoba. The city
contains very significant treasures of Andalusian gum Arabic art.
Few cities can claim to have an entire ancient califal city so
nearby. Madinat Al-Zahra, an emblematic place given its rich
history, is surrounded by a large natural area where one can
enjoy nature, culture and urban pleasures at the same time, and
is considered to be one of the highlights of Islamic art, thanks
to its structure and urban layout, alongside the diversity of
materials used, the architectural solutions used and the
extraordinary wealth and quality of its decorations. It is a
magnificent legacy, which since its creation has become a legend
and represents, along with the Aljama Mosque, the essence of one
of the most important periods of history on the Iberian
Peninsula. the splendour of the caliphate; and Cordoba, together
with Baghdad, is the more important city and boasts the greatest
cultural splendour of the time, highlighting the époque of the
caliph Al-haKan II.
TRAVELLING INSTRUCTIONS.- Bus and train to Córdoba. Participants
should arrive from 12 noon on July 16th to the Instalación
Juvenil “Córdoba.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK.-
Environmental education throuth direct contact with the resources
of the area.
Help to work in the reconstruction activities.
Get experience in coexistence training and human relations.
To get tools for developing social dynamics.
COMPLEMENTARY ACTIVITIES.- Morning work (9-14h.). Triips and
excursions. Workshops: qi-gong, musictherapy, environmental
education, sport massage, clown initiation activities, yoga,
climbing, acrobatic techniques, astronomy.
ACCOMMODATION/FOOD.- The volunteers will be hosted in the village
house of Aineto (Huesca). It is in good condition for using.
Showers and toilets are available to use. Kitchen and restaurant
are installed outdoors, material borrowed by the Aragonese Youth
Institute.
Food: in general vegetarian diet (including eggs and daily
products) with meat and fish once a week. Three main meals a day
plus midday lunch. The cooker will make the meals and some
changing volunteers will help in these activities.
