Coach Young’s Pre-Algebra 2015-2016

Class Conduct

  1. All rules/policies printed in the 2015-2016 student agenda/handbook apply in our classroom. No food is allowed in the class unless directed by the office.
  2. Students are expected to bring all necessary supplies to class DAILY and be in their seat when the bell rings with pencils and homework ready to go.
  3. Being respectful, responsible, and safe are important to remember at all times. Should any student cause a problem for anyone, I will ask the student to fix the problem or expect a consequence. A warning will be given and then consequences, such as a parent phone call or detention. Parents will be notified if a detention is warranted.
  4. Hall Pass – Students are expected to take care of personal needs between classes. Should an emergency arise, a student will be allowed to leave for the restroom or nurse with their agenda. Students should not expect to leave the classroom more than twice a semester. Nurse visits for things such as chapstick, Band-Aids, or ice should be taken care of between classes.
  5. MLA Heading – Every student in the building is expected to use an MLA heading on every paper, in every class.
  6. Students are expected to keep their agenda current. The assignment board is updated daily. Writing down the objective and assignment daily is an expectation of all students.

Classroom Procedures

  1. Supplies: Students will need to have paper, pencils (preferably mechanical), erasers, red pens, a composition book, and graph paper. Having a pouch/pocket and or binder may be helpful in keeping track of these important items. NO Backpacks, Trapper Keepers, bags, or purses will be allowed in the classroom!
  2. Textbook: The School will provide each student with a textbook. We also have a classroom set available for use in the classroom, so students will be issued a book that should be taken home and left there for the duration of the school year. It will need to be returned (or paid for) at the end of the year. A lost book will have to be purchased. Damaged books may also incur a cost. Current cost for textbook is $71.50.
  3. BellRingers: Daily bell ringer questions will be given at the beginning of each class. These will be written in the Composition Book, along with notes. Notebook checks will be done each 9 weeks, but bell ringers and notes will be crucial to student success.
  4. Homework: Homework will be assigned almost daily. Most of the time, students will be given an opportunity to begin their assignment in class. Anything not finished is considered homework. Homework will be graded daily and turned for a grade. Homework not completed, not done in pencil, work not shown, are all deductions from the homework grade.
  5. Test: Test can be expected when we complete a unit. From time to time there may be additional quizzes to check for learning and understanding. Students will always be informed about upcoming test, but quizzes may “pop” up.
  6. Grades: Grades will be based on a percentage scale of 90%-100% A, 80%-89% B, 70%-79% C etc. Homework will compile to approximately 65% of their grade while test will make up the other 35%.

Important Stuff to Know: All students are expected to be in their seats when the bell rings. All work is to be completed in pencil and graded in red pen. All work is to be shown on all assignments, unless otherwise instructed. Failure to show work = Zero points. When instruction is taking place, students are expected to remain seated. Sharpen pencils before class or use mechanical pencils is preferred. A final note: ASK QUESTIONS….do not be afraid to ASK QUESTIONS!!!
