This Symposium is for individuals (anthropologists, basic scientists, ecologists, environmentalists, economists, health economists, historians, human rights activists, information technologists, lawyers, nurses, nutritionists, physicians, politicians, sociologists, social workers) from all parts of the world. The Symposium offers participants the opportunity to come together and collectively share their knowledge, expertise and experience on issues relevant to effects of globalization (positive and negative) on children and women.

Objectives

To limit (reduce) internal/external influences affecting the quality of life of targeted riskpopulations

To share implementation and evaluation strategies used to decrease incidents of abuse against children and women.

To explore the outcomes (i.e. lessons learned) of projects related to children and women

GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACTS

Contributions in the form of papers, workshops, posters, or other presentation medium are sought. Anyone interested in presenting at the Symposium must submit an abstract to the Symposium Office at the address below. Please read the following instructions before completing the abstract form:

Abstracts will be reproduced in the abstract book in their original form.

Typed abstracts, of no more than 300 words, can be submitted by surface mail, together with 2 copies, by email or fax by October 30, 2002. If sending by fax we require one typed copy. Please indicate preferred method of presentation (oral/poster/other/no preference).

1.Abstracts must be typed using black ink, and single-spaced.

2.Abstract titles should be brief, reflect the content of the abstract, and be in CAPITAL letters.

3.Abstracts should be structured in such a way as to include: a short introduction, clear presentation of the purpose of the paper, brief description of methods and procedures, summary of results, & conclusion.

4.Successful presenters will be notified by the 15th of November, 2002.

5.Underline the name of the presenting author, who will be considered the contact person for all correspondence connected with this abstract.

FUNDING REQUESTS

Appeals for financial assistance will be considered by the Symposium planning committee, based on the following criteria:

  • Individual must be a student, grass root and/or community worker from developing countries or marginalized populations from developed countries i.e., Aboriginal People
  • Individual must agree to take an active role in the implementation of the Symposium i.e., poster presentation, discussion, speaker
  • Individual must serve as a volunteer, before, during and/or after the Symposium
  • Must possess a valid passport from their country and be eligible to travel to Thailand
  • Demonstrate their purpose/need for attending the Symposium, and how it will benefit themselves and other participants
  • Support will only be provided for registration and accommodation.

CANCELLATION POLICY

Refund for cancellation of Registration received before 31st December, 2002 shall be 70% of the paid amount, less administrative costs, payable after the Symposium. No claims for refund will be entertained after 31st December, 2002.
