General Information on the Co-Funding Support for In-House R&D

Purpose:

The purpose of this programis to partner withprivate sectorcompanies in co-funding their in-house R&D for the development of science, technology and innovation (STI) and management capability issues and needs.

Co-Funding Support for R&D Value:

There are two categories for co-funding:

I. Initial Studies:

KFAS will contribute to market research or a feasibility study or a pre-project implementation typestudies, however that contribution will depend on the proposed study and KFAS’ contribution will not exceed KD 5,000.

II. R&D Implementation:

KFAS will contribute a portion of the cost of the R&D implementation, as determined by reviewing the project proposal, with the understanding that the company will cover the remainder of the cost. KFAS’ contribution will be determined based on the size of the project, budget constraints and the internal policies and procedures regarding co-funding.

Please note, KFAS will issue payments to the company, not the Research Institution. Payment terms, agreements and procedures must be agreed upon between the company and the selected Research Institution separately.

General Eligibility Requirements:

  1. Project must reflect the need for an STI-related solution (within science, technology or innovation) and have clear deliverables, with an added value to the business.
  2. Service must be procured from the research base or knowledge provider approved by KFAS.
  3. The project would fall within one or more of the following criteria:
  4. STI and management capability related
  5. Seeking new STI systems and processes
  6. Testing of pilot projects that incorporate newly developed products and technologies.
  7. Conducting a feasibility study including consultation and market analysis
  8. Projects concerned with the development of new technology for the construction industry and/or to be integrated into a new building may be supported

The projects that WILL NOT be supported are:

  • Projects related to physical buildings, construction and extensions.
  • Design of Web pages
  • Purchase of equipment not related to STI
  • Purchase of software that is intended for day-to-day operations
  • Equipment maintenance
  • Operational expenditure costs not related to STI

KFAS reserves the right to accept or reject projects:

Final determination of the projects’ eligibility rests with KFAS’ Innovation and Enterprise Directorate, which may make eligibility subject to terms, conditions and limits set out in a signed agreement between KFAS and the company.

The process is done as follows:

  • Have an official letter signed by the executive head of the administering institution addressed to:

  • Complete the application form (please ensure it is signed and dated by an authorized representative of the company).
  • Submit the necessary documentation; consisting of:
  • An official preliminary requirements letter
  • An official cover letter
  • This application form
  • A proposal or feasibility study
  • Any other supporting documents
  • The submitted material will be reviewed byInnovation and Enterprise Management, and if deemed necessary, an external review committee will be assigned to evaluate it.
  • Once the review and evaluation is complete, results will be communicated by e-mail or mail.
  • If approved, aletter of acceptance will be sent to you with terms of the agreement and in turn, an official letter needs to be sent by the company to KFAS agreeing to the terms and conditions stated in that acceptance letter.
  • Once the return letter of agreement from the company is received, the disbursement of funds will be carried out per the terms and conditions agreed upon.
  • Please be aware, the acceptance letter is only valid for six months from date of issue.The letter of agreement issued by the company to KFAS must be received during those 6 months, otherwise,the terms and conditions in the acceptance letter are null and void and the company must apply again.
  • Once the project is completed, anevaluation survey will be required (see below for more information), as well as a success story (standard form will be provided)along with a final report before the last payment is made by KFAS.

  • KFAS maintains a policy of continuous improvement, and a part of that policy is the ongoing evaluation of its staff, services, and interactions with the private sector. In order to serve you better, KFAS may send a fewevaluation surveys designed to measure your satisfaction in your interactions with us. You may receive surveys during the following points in the project:
  • During the initial set-up and negotiation of the project, before an official agreement has been signed.
  • After the immediate completion or end of the project
  • 6 months or later after the completion of the project, to determine the impact the project has had on the company
  • Please note, completion of the evaluation surveysis mandatory, and the final payment will not be released without the submission of the survey.

Notice of use of information:

  • KFAS reserves the right to use the success stories submitted, all or in-part, to promote or bring awareness to its programs, courses, training programs and/or other organizational initiatives as deemed necessary.
