Life Jackets for Tuvalu Scouts / Please see what you can do to help with this.
Auckland Regatta / Age Ranges
We will go with the changes proposed:
Intermediate age upper limit 16
Senior Age upper limit 19
Upper ages to be interpreted as “not yet reached”
Expect that this will be 18.5 at next National regatta, but we need to have a National Conversation around this.
Coaching Class / Decided that all boats would sail together. But if coached the leader will advised beach. Placing adjusted accordingly. IE better than a DNF
Topic for Leaders meeting on Saturday night
Seamanship / Thoughts about using Saturday Evening
Maybe rig sunnies after they are on the beach
Maybe do some other practical stuff
Ideas welcome
Patrol Boats / We need all the Region’s bigger patrol boats. While we hope for fair weather, we need to be prepared for problems. And we need crew for all patrol boats. Not all will come with crew.
And some smaller boats and crew too. For Iron Man and Kayaking. And, depending on what we do, for Seamanship. As well as for the Sailing and Rowing.
Staff / We need other staff as well. Each of these requires someone to take the lead and helpers to make it happen:
  • Committee Boat
  • Beach
  • Patrol Boat skippers and crew
  • Kayaking
  • Iron Man
  • Seamanship
  • Camping Comp
  • Raft challenge
  • Gate Registration
  • Admin assistance
  • Staff catering
Thank you to those (few) who have already volunteered.

Waitemata Challenge / Organiser
Andrew Stevens
He will need assistance
VenueTo be advised
Date6 December
Event costs / Auckland Regatta
- costs - $26 per person for full weekend but need numbers to support keeping costs down
Other events could benefit from sponsorship, eg $800 for Swimming Sports Pool, or $200 for badges
Please think about who we could approach for sponsorship.
Insurance / This is an ongoing question
There seem to be a variety of policies and a variety of premiums.
Concern that some policies seem to limit cover to when members of the group “owning” the boat are using it. This seems silly as boats are frequently lent. And what about Regional Boats.
Clarity is necessary
Shooting Comp / Stephen Lowther, long time organiser, has indicated that he would like a break.
Anyone else who would like to take it on?
Need not be a Sea Scout
Other venues were suggested:
Whangaparoa Range – important in maintaining links with the Navy
Birkenhead
Howick
Waitakere
Maintaining contact with the Navy
Leader training opportunity / We have had such great support from the Navy and the site is so good we need to be there as often as possible and not 9 years down the track.
Suggested that a pre Term 1 training event might be a good idea. Say a 4 day weekend camp for leaders and senior youth.
Not specifically to pass Charge Certs, but to upskill and practice.
Topic for Water activities meeting on Sunday night at Regatta
Keith Turner – National Council Rep / Keith kindly attended the meeting.
Explained that National Council is policy setting body not operational body –
Meeting on Saturday will have:
  • Vision 2025 document review,
  • discussion on the law and if changes to set of principles, Promise has been added to agenda from somewhere
  • report of independent council review of uniform implementation
  • Elected body but are we discussing what we want for rep to represent and vote on our behalf –
  • meets twice a year in March and November around the 20th month
There was a lively discussion. Concerns were expressed about a number of things. Various views covered.
Lots of concern around the role of National Paid staff. And the real structure of Scouting.
Outcomes / :Leaders need more information
Communication must be better
Why were the Council papers circulated so late and not to the whole of Scouting
Leaders would like National Council Reps to attend each of our meetings,
Notes that as we cover both UNI and CNI we have 10 folk we’d like to invite. Happy for one to attend. Happy for several to attend.
We will put aside a set amount of time as a guide.
Keith’s email address is
Sea Scout Development Fund / A question was asked:
What happened to the Sea Scout Development Fund established after the National Regatta in 1983?
