Patterns are all around us
We create patterns with different materials
Using our own words we describe patterns and begin to use the language of position
Patterns are arranged in different ways ( line, circle )
Patterns have an order we can follow.
We follow the rules of a pattern to identify what comes next
When we copy a pattern we match objects that are the same.
We look at what comes before to continue a pattern
Some patterns have a repeated sequence / Key vocabulary:
before, after, next, between, continue, sequence, pattern, own, straight, zig zag, first, last, next to, follow, match, because, works, if...then, size, colour, again, on and on, repeat, shape, order, again, spots, stripes
Routines of the day
Pattern Walk – patterns all around us – environment. Clothing, wallpaper, order of day, in stories, rhymes and poems (I can make a pattern..)
Take Pattern Teddy home

Sponge prints, textures, junk modelling, mosaics, design a jumper, bag, stamps, wrapping paper, borders, Photographs, stickers
Construction – sizes and shapes of bricks, boxes
Beads and laces, kid counters and grids

Baking – following a recipe
