Documentsmay include but are not limited to – business letters, completion of correspondence from dictated notes, information containing columns and tables, technical and specialist terms, notices of meetings, agenda, minutes, confirmation of conversations, reports.

3Transcription is based on a 97% level of accuracy that allows three errors per 100 words dictated. Only one error is attributable to one word and five keystrokes represent an average word. Keystrokes include punctuation and spacing. Dictionaries for English language and specialist terms, meeting procedure references, and trade and business resources may be used during transcription.

Outcomes and evidence requirements

Outcome 1

Maximise the use of audio transcription technology and maintain security procedures.

Evidence requirements

1.1Technology features are identified and their use demonstrated in accordance with instructions and information provided.

Rangemay include but is not limited to – index and search functions, erase functions, voice speed control, variable back-space function;

evidence of three features is required.

1.2Procedures for maintaining security and confidentiality of information are identified and complied with in accordance with organisational requirements.

Rangeaccess to dictated information, storage of dictated information, erasure of dictated information.

Outcome 2

Transcribe documents from a recorded source dictated at 100 words per minute (wpm).

Evidence requirements

2.1Transcriptions of recorded information, are consistent with the information provided and achieve at least 97% accuracy.

Rangetranscriptions may be undertaken at different times, transcription time for both documents is a total of 40 minutes;

evidence of two different types of documents each containing a total of 500-600 words dictated at 100 wpm.

2.2Interpretation of instructions, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and format of transcriptions are consistent with the information provided and output required.

Outcome 3

Produce documents from recorded dictation sources.

Rangeevidence of three documents is required.

Evidence requirements

3.1Documents produced from a variable quality recorded source, containing interruptions and requiring substantial editing and amendments, are consistent with the information provided and output required.

3.2Documents incorporate information from sources other than recorded dictation to produce output required.

Rangesources may include but are not limited to – printed enclosures, hand-written notes, document copies;

evidence for two different sources is required.

3.3Interpretation and use of business and specialised terminology are consistent with information provided and output required.
