Club Bangla - Constitution

Article I- Club Bangla

The name of this organization shall be called Club Bangla of Columbia University. The objective of Club Bangla should be take major steps in increasing awareness on campus about the Bengali language and culture at Columbia. We want to cultivate a close frame of support for Columbia students and its affiliates of Bengali background and interest.

Article II- Executive Board

Section 1:The executive board of Club Bangla shall consist of the following members: President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary. Board meetings must take place on a regular basis. The minimum number of meetings should be once per month.

Section 2:The President of Club Bangla are responsible for overseeing committee activities, executive action, and event planning. President must be available to address club-related concerns at all reasonable times. A distinct president must be elected by the official committee members of the board for every academic year.

Section 3:The Vice President must uphold student-foreign relations. The Vice President is also responsible in taking over the President’s obligations when the President cannot execute his/her duties.

Section 4:The Treasurer is responsible for the budgeting of Club Bangla. The Treasurer has the ability to veto/oversee any financial propositions by Club Bangla with valid reasoning.

Section 5:The Secretary of the Club Bangla is primarily responsible for maintaining internal club communication.

Section 6: The Executive Board must present this constitution to whom it is requested by.

Article III:Eligibility

Section 1:Both Columbia and Barnard undergraduate students are eligible to become members of the Executive board.

Section 2:The President and Vice President of the Society must be have participated in Club Bangla for at least two academic years.

Article IV:Other Positions in the form of Official Committee Members

Section 1:The Official Committee Members (OCM) are Active Members of Club Bangla at Columbia. They will compensate for any vacancies in Executive Board positions. OCMs are to report to club meetings and events.

A)The OCM trained to be treasurer after Board Elections will be responsible for assisting in budgeting ABC/SGA allocations

B)The Webmaster OCM is responsible for maintaining the Club Bangla website and weekly board emails.

Article V:Membership

Section 1:Club Bangla is open to all students of ColumbiaUniversity.

Section 2:In order to be considered an Active Member one must attend the general body and 25% of the events held during the academic year.

Article VI- Elections

Section 1: Elections for the following academic year shall be held during the first general body meeting of the Spring semester.

Section 2:The candidate who collects most votes within Club Bangla is granted the competing position.

Section 3:Elections shall be held and valid only to participating members of Club Bangla.

Section 4: If there is a tie for the any Executive Board President, there shall be two Executive board members of equal rights governing the events of Club Bangla on Columbia Campus and on Barnard Campus. The other Executive Members are to decide who is given which position by a 2/3 vote of the members.

Article VII:Disciplinary Action and Impeachment

Section 1:Disciplinary action for violation/abuse of Executive Board positions is a temporary suspension of duties until a resolution is reached solely by the members of Club Bangla.

Section 2:Resignation will not allow for an Executive Board Member to hold any future Executive Board positions. Resigned/impeached members are to be taken into consideration to participate as an Official Committee Member. Impeachment can only happen through a majority vote of at least 2/3 of the active members of Club Bangla.

Article VII- ABANDONMENT

Section 1: If Club Bangla is abandoned by all Executive Board Members, it is the responsibility of any Official Committee Member to acknowledge the history of Club Bangla and take over any feasible Executive Board position.

Article VIII:Amendments

Section 1:Club Bangla members are only to make amendments to the Constitution

Section 2:Amendments to the constitution of Club Bangla must be negotitated by 3/4 the members of the Executive Board and the Official Committee Members who have existed at Club Bangla over two academic semesters..

Section 3:At no time will any article violate any regulation or policy set forth by ColumbiaUniversity
