2 "I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery…

8 "Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your animals, nor the alien within your gates. 11 For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

Leviticus 23:1-3

1 The LORD said to Moses, 2 "Speak to the Israelites and say to them: 'These are my appointed feasts, the appointed feasts of the LORD, which you are to proclaim as sacred assemblies.

3 "There are six days when you may work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of rest, a day of sacred assembly. You are not to do any work; wherever you live, it is a Sabbath to the LORD.

God of Mercy, Father of Compassion,

We have not admitted our need for rest and worship.

Forgive us for the sake of Jesus, Amen

Invitation to the Lord’s Supper

We welcome you to the sacrament setting forth the communion of saints.

Communion is a family meal of Christians. We welcome all committed followers of Jesus Christ to partake of this sacrament: those who are baptized members of a congregation which proclaims the gospel, who are at peace with God and with their neighbor, and who seek strength to live more faithfully for Christ.

If you are not a Christian, or have not made public profession of faith*, we encourage you to spend this time in prayer. The purpose of this Holy Supper is not to hold out judgment, but rather to hold out God's forgiveness and pardon. Through this means of grace we receive the benefits of Christ's death and present intercession; in fact, through it, we receive nothing less than Christ himself. We hope that this time is helpful as you consider your relationship with Jesus Christ, and with his people, the church.

*Cloverdale URC does not practice paedo-communion, the participation in the Lord’s Supper by children who have not made public profession of faith.

Wine & Grape Juice in the Lord’s Supper

The Elders have placed wine along with grape juice in the Lord’s Supper. They have prepared the Table of the Lord so that no person’s conscience should be troubled with respect to that element which represents to us the blood of Christ. May your participation bring life, joy, happiness and strength in Christ as you by faith receive the blessings visibly shown in the Sacrament.

In receiving the Lord’s Supper we offer these considerations:

1)  Parents, regarding your children who have made public profession of faith, until they are free to follow their own conscience in this matter, please direct them in choosing the element (wine or grape juice) of which they will partake.

2)  The wine and the grape juice will be distinguishable within the serving tray by a small differentiation in color and placement. Cups in the inner ring of the serving tray will contain grape juice; the outer two rings will contain wine.

“The grass withers

and the flowers fall,

but the word of our God

stands forever.”

Isaiah 40:8

Cloverdale United Reformed Church

Cloverdale United Reformed Church is part of the United Reformed Churches in North America. As a Reformed and Protestant Church we are part of that historic church that grew out of the 16th Century Protestant Reformation. We believe that Scripture alone is our only guide for faith and life and that the historic confessions (Heidelberg Catechism, Belgic Confession and Canons of Dort) faithfully summarize the teaching of the Bible. We are United as a body of Christian believers that gathers each Lord’s Day, where God is glorified through the faithful preaching of His Word, baptism and the Lord’s Supper are received and his church is discipled with care.
