Contestant Rules and Regulations

  1. All contestants must be amateurs. For the purposes of this contest, the definition of amateur is that your performance is not your profession in that you do not make a living by doing what you perform. If you are not clear about whether or not you are considered an amateur or professional, please contact Christina, contest coordinator, via email: .
  2. This contest is open to students who live and/or go to school in Carlton County. The adult contest is open to adults who currently live in Carlton County.
  3. All contestants must register no later than 8:00 a.m. onWednesday, March 13. Early registration is available and appreciated. A $10 non-refundable registration fee is due at the time of registration. Checks should be made payable to Community Education.
  4. Contestants may utilize live props. This will include back-up singers, dancers, or musicians. Non-human props such as costumes and other accessories are permitted. Any prop used by a contestant must be carried on stage or into the stage area by the contestant, and must be completed in one trip onto or into the stage area.
  5. Contestants must stay on the stage during their performance. Contestants will be performing in a family friendly environment. Any actions that may be interpreted as inappropriate for a family environment will be cause for disqualification. Any disorderly conduct on the premises will result in disqualification.
  6. Judges will announce the top scoring contestants who will compete in the contest on Saturday, April 27 starting at 6:30 pm.
  7. Contestants will perform two times; once for the audition and once for the competition. All selections must meet the guidelines provided. The performance can be repeated.
  8. The order in which each contestant competes is determined by the contest staff, by random selection.
  9. Contestants will be judged by a 3 person judging system. Judging will be marked on Quality of Performance, Originality, Creative Expression/Appropriateness, Audience Reaction and Costuming/Stage Presence.Judges decisions are FINAL
  10. Decisions of the judges are final. No arguing with judges is allowed. Any contestant, their family or associates who argue with a judge may be deemed to be using offensive behavior and the contestant may be disqualified from competition.
  11. Winners agree that by accepting your prize, Carlton County Community Education programs have the right to print, publish the winner’s name, picture, voice, likeness and biographical information as news or information for advertising and promotional purposes without additional consideration.
  12. Any and all taxes are the sole responsibility of the winners.
  13. Winners’ will be posted on the website.
  14. If the competition is canceled, cash and prizes will not be awarded. Carlton County Community Education reserves the right to cancel the contest at any time.Carlton County Community Education reserves the right to cancel any division or prize category because of insufficient participation.
