Purpose of the role
Supporting and maintaining a safe therapeutic living environment that promotes client responsibility and respect, and to help clients to develop plans for moving forward in their recovery and in overcoming the difficulties they may face in doing this.
Late shifts are from 4.00pm to 10.00pm to be worked on a rolling rota, some weekend work is required.

Main Tasks
Provide support to the service in the following ways:
- Responsibility for the administration of prescription medicines to clients and for maintaining accurate MAR sheets and medicines stock control records
- Explain/reiterate the rules and expectations of treatment to clients as required
- Responsibility for maintaining accurate client recordsthrough client database in a timely manner
- Challenge inappropriate behaviour and support clients to address behavioural/attitudinal issues
- To transport clients to medical appointment, meetings etc as directed
- Facilitate therapeutic activities
- Provide crisis intervention as required e.g. in terms of supporting clients and discharges etc.
- Motivate clients to develop and achieve their own recovery capital through personal, social and community links, together with educational, training and employment opportunities.
- Support clients on a practical level, e.g. assist with housing and financial claims and in matters concerning their health, including the management of prescription medication
- Responsibility for maintaining house and client expectation and safety standards
- Support clients to progress through to 2nd stage treatment
- To maintain regular communication with members of the team ensuring all relevant information is recorded and handed over as appropriate

- Maintain professional boundaries and work within the Code of Ethics for support staff at all times
General Administration/Support Tasks
- Develop effective communications with the rest of the staff house team to ensure an optimum service delivery is achieved
- Attendance at Team Meeting and or other meetings as relevant or as directed
- To establish and maintain links to other organisations necessary to provide on-going recovery support and to ensure that those links are shared within the organisation
- To make use of internal line management and supervision as provided
- To be responsible for own safety and others affected by your activities and to ensure adherence to the Nelson Trust policies and procedures regarding Health & Safety
- To be aware of and work within Nelson Trust policies and procedures particularly those relating to Safeguarding/Protection; Confidentiality and Staff Code of Ethics
- To be aware of and work within relevant governing standards as notified to you
- Confident in lone working – Ability to seek and give support to lone working colleagues as required
- To attend training and development sessions as relevant and as provided
- Contribute towards the development of the service
- Contribute toward data collation and reporting as directed
- Develop own practice by maintaining and improving knowledge of relevant work practices
- Perform any other duties as may be reasonably expected from you as directed by line management

Probationary period: All posts within The Nelson Trust are subject to a six month probationary period with a mid-point review at 3 months.
Person SpecificationExperience
- Good understanding of safeguarding procedures
- Experience of working in a residential addiction treatment setting - desirable
- A demonstrable understanding of the need for, and ability to, deliver quality services.
- Experience of working with people affected by substance misuse issues - desirable
- Self-motivated with the ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Experience of working in the voluntary sector – desirable
- Ability to liaise with service users, respond where appropriate in a professional confident manner and escalating where needed
Qualifications
- Administration of Prescription Medication – Certificated (desirable or must be willing to work towards)
- NVQ Level 3 or 4 Health & Social Care – (desirable – should be working towards qualification)
- Food Hygiene Training (desirable)
- First Aid Training (desirable)
