Overview

The Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) is accepting applications for the 2016-2018 Cohort of the CTSI Translational Research Academy, an education, research support, and networking program for early career clinical and translational research faculty. Academy Scholars benefit from regular meetings which help build the professional competencies which are the foundation of an independent research career.CTSI Translational Research Academy faculty members facilitate the educational sessions and provide informal mentoring. Scholars receive priority access to the many services of the CTSI, including the Study Coordinator Pool, Biostatistical Consultation, Research Navigation, REDCap Online Survey and Database Tools, Clinical Research Unit, Grant Management Core, Grant and Manuscript Editing, and Research Studios. Salary support is not provided.

Eligibility

Early career faculty, instructors or assistant professors, who are interested in developing as clinical and translational researchers. Faculty members with or planning to apply for individual mentored training awards (K-awards or their equivalents) are especially encouraged to apply.

Expectations

The core of the program is the Translational Research Academy Scholar Forum. Scholars are expected to share and discuss research ideas, data and be active and regular participants in the sessions and other specialized educational offerings. Scholar Forum sessions are held twice monthly, 75 minutes each. Continuation in the program is based on participation.

Scholars will also be asked to complete self-assessment tools and/or inventories, provide feedback for program evaluation and improvement, and report outcomes of academic productivity. Scholars agree to be contacted by the program regarding their activities in clinical and translational research for up to 15 years.

Explain your strategy to obtain your first independent research grant. This plan should leverage existing strengths, environment, expertise and resources. Address the following components, to the extent possible:

  1. Summary of Central Research Question or Hypothesis (novelty, significance, approach, etc.)
  2. Supporting Preliminary Data currently in hand and any additional data, resources or equipment available/required to flesh it out
  3. Members of Your Research Team – if different from your mentoring team
  4. Targeted Funding Opportunity – where have you determined to be the best fit for this grant?
  5. Timeline for development and/or grant submission

SCHOLAR FORUM ATTENDANCE

An expectation of being a member of the Research Academy is to participatein Scholar Forum session, twice a month/seventy-five minutes each. These will be scheduled at times that are best for the majority of members. Scholars are expected to attend at least 65% of Scholar Forum sessions.

Evaluation of Applications

Applications will be reviewed by the CTSI Education Program Core Faculty. You will be notified of the status of your application by Friday, December 11, 2015.

Scholar Academy Dates

The 2016-2018 Cohort will begin in January 2016 and continue through December 2017.
