Clinic Registered Nurse (Clinic RN)

Moab Regional Hospital is seeking qualified candidates for the Clinic Registered Nurse (Clinic RN) position. This role provides direct patient care, in a medical/physician office setting, using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice and with the policies, values, and mission of Moab Regional Hospital and Moab Regional Health Center.

Job Duties

  • Assist in the clinic for staffing shortages, patient volume changes, procedures or any other situations that require the assistance of the Clinic RN.
  • Assesses patient needs telephonically and/or in person.
  • Ability to recognize adverse signs and symptoms and quickly react in emergency situations.
  • Maintain and review patient records, charts and other pertinent information. Interview patient, document chief complaint, measure vital signs and accurately record information in Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
  • Assesses patient's general condition and takes vital signs and weight.
  • Assists physicians with examinations, diagnostic procedures and treatments.
  • Provides basic patient care as ordered.
  • Instruct patient in collection of samples and tests.
  • Collects and assesses significant patient history information and performs all necessary patient teaching.
  • Promotes wellness by providing patient education materials, communicating physician advice/instructions.
  • Educate patient and family about diagnostic procedures, medications, chronic disease management and treatment instructions.
  • Communicate treatment plans and patient teaching in accordance with established protocols
  • Communicate test results and instructions to patients per practice protocol.
  • Act as a content expert and clinical resource by providing staff and patient education.
  • Perform and train clinical staff and verify clinical competencies to include but not limited to:

1.Consistently demonstrate correct handling of procedure specimens per physician orders, including appropriate identification, labeling, dating and disposition of the specimen.

2.Set up, operate and monitor specialized medical equipment such as cardiac monitoring devices, EKG units, oxygen analyzers, nebulizers, and other clinic specific equipment

3.Performs/assists with procedures such administration of oxygen, visual acuity tests, EKGs, irrigation of eyes and ears, tympanograms, splinting, phlebotomy and other clinic specific procedures, in accordance with established protocols.

4.Adherence to infection control/safety guidelines, and confidentiality policies.

5.Perform Quality Control procedures on clinic laboratory tests.

6.Establish priorities in organizing daily activities, effectively manage patient flow and anticipate special equipment, solutions and miscellaneous supplies needed for various procedures.

7.Accurately document all pertinent information regarding the patient in EMR.

8.Accurately and promptly refill prescriptions as authorized by provider and/or practice policy.

9.Makes referral appointments and arranges specialty care as appropriate.

10.Ensures all equipment is properly cleaned and stored at the end of each work shift. Ensures preventive maintenance and routine cleaning are performed as directed. Ensures medication/supplies are replenished.

11.Assures all clinical procedures are followed and appropriate logs are documented.

Required Qualifications

  • 2 years clinic nursing experience is preferred but not required.
  • Current, unencumbered Utah or compact state RN license, required.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, required.
  • Knowledge of infection control principles, patient safety techniques, and prevention of adverse reactions to medications/treatments, required.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills and ability to maintain such in situations with rapidly changing circumstances.
  • Demonstrated communication skills, both orally and in writing, with providers, co-workers, patients, and patient families, required.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work both independently and as part of a team, required.
  • Knowledge of a variety of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment, the desired effects, side effects, and complications of their use as well as the accurate administration of the pharmacologic agent, including dosage calculations as required. Knowledge of the administrative requirements for proper documentation of patient conditions including disease progress, acknowledgement of teaching, and follow up care.
  • Knowledge of computer operations and proficiency in use of basic word processing, data entry and automated medical records.
