Clingan Named to Santa Ana College Women’s Cross Country and Track & Field Post

SANTA ANA, CA – TheSanta AnaCollege athletic department has hired longtimeCerritosCollegeassistant cross country and track & field coach, Jeff Clingan,to lead its women’s cross country and track & field teams for the upcoming 2005-06 season. He takes over for Jim McCarron who resigned from the position following the 2005 women’s track & field season.

Prior to joining the Santa AnaCollege coaching staff, Clingan had been associated with the CerritosCollege’scross country and track & field programs for over 25 years. He led the Falcons’ 2003 men’s track & field team to a fifth-place finish at the California Community College Commission On Athletics State Championships and a sixth-place showing at the Southern California Regional meet. This past season he served as an assistant coach for both the men’s and women’s track & field teams.

Clingan first joined the CerritosCollege track & field coaching staff in 1979 and served until 1981. He returned in 1985 and was an assistant until 1988. Most recently, Clingan served as a track & field coach for the last decade and has been either the men’s or women’s cross-country coach since 1990.

In 1999, Clingan was recognized as the South Coast Conference (SCC) Men’s Cross Country Co-Coach of the Year, while in 2000 he sharedSCC
Track & Field Coach of the Year honors with Doug Wells, the director of the CerritosCollege track & field program.

As a student-athlete, Clingan prepped at WarrenHigh School(Downey, CA) where hewon the 1975 CIF Southern Section triple jump title and placed fourth at the CIF State Championships. Following high school, Clingan enrolled at CerritosCollege and excelled as a member of the college track & field team. In 1977, he was named CerritosCollege’s Athlete of the Year and his name can still be found in the Falcon recordbook where he ranks second in both the triple jump and long jump.

2-2-2-2-2SAC Hires Clingan To Lead Women’s Cross Country and Track & Field Teams

Upon graduation from CerritosCollege, he transferred to CaliforniaStateUniversity, Long Beach, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in physical education. He went on to earn his master’s degree in physical education from AzusaPacificUniversity.

Clingan and his wife, Carolyn, live in Corona with their three children – Tim, Molly and Emily.
