Assignment 3

  • Click New from the main toolbar and select Part as the Type. Type TRUCK_WHEEL as the Name and press ENTER.
  • Click Datum Axes , Datum Points , and Coordinate Systems from the main toolbar (top of the screen) to disable their display.
  • To setup units, select from the pull down menu EDIT SETUP  UNITS millimeter Kilogram second (mmKs)  Set Convert dimensions (for example 1” becomes 25.4mm) OK  CLOSE.

Task 1 : Create shape of cross-section (for revolve)

this is where center of rotation is / 1)Start the Sketch Tool from the feature toolbar (right of the screen).
2)Select datum plane FRONT from the model, and click Sketch from the Sketch dialog box.
3)By default F1 (Right) and F2 (Top) are being selected as the dimension reference. Click CLOSE from the References dialog box.
4)This is going to be a sketch for REVOLVE. Make sure you know where exactly the center is. For this example, the center is going to be the origin of the coordinate system. See figure on the left.
/ 5)Sketch the shape shown.
6)Make sure your shape is ABOVE the center of rotation
7)Please refer to the original drawing fro FULL dimensions (lengths)
8)IGNORE roundings of edges for now (for example: 6 x R3 )
9)Delete any unnecessary lines you used for reference and finally get shape shown in figure.
10)Click Complete Sketch from the sketcher toolbar (right of the screen).
Task 2 : Revolving into 3D shape
  • While the sketch is still selected (highlighted), start the Revolve Tool from the feature toolbar (right of the screen).

  • Click on the coordinate system-origin
/
Set the angle to be 360º and click complete
Task 3 : Evenly spaced holes
/
  1. Start the Sketch Tool from the feature toolbar (right of the screen).
  2. Select datum plane FRONT from the model, and click Sketch from the Sketch dialog box.
  1. By default F1 (Right) and F2 (Top) are being selected as the dimension reference. Click CLOSE from the References dialog box.
  1. Make a reference circle of diameter 86mm, because all 3 holes lie on this line
  1. Begin sketching the first hole as shown.
  1. Use the correct value for hole’s diameter

/
  1. To make 3 holes evenly spaced with each other, the angle between all of the should be 120º
  1. Draw a line to help find the center of the other circles
  1. Draw all the holes
  1. Delete all the lines and the circle of diameter 86 mm
  1. Complete sketch and make holes by extrusion

Task 4 : Rounding the edges

selecting edges /
  • Click on Round tool from the feature toolbar (right of the screen).
  • Click on the edges / corners that you would like to round
  • Set radius as required
  • 6 x R3 : Repeat 6 times, rounding radius = 3 mm
  • 6 x R2 : Repeat 6 times, rounding radius = 2 mm
  • Repeats mean, for example rounding edges of the 3 holes, required you to select front & back of the 3 holes ( = 6 times)

Another example: to select edges /
  • Make sure you have rounded ALL the edges that is SPECIFIED(front and back)
  • Use zoom + rotate to help you selected the edge that you want

/ Good work, print and hand it 
To print:
  • Set to wireframe view
  • File  Print  Configure  Size = A4
  • Write down your name please
