Coming Together to Empower Learning

Clayburn Middle is pleased to announce that a number of pods are offering families the opportunity to participate in a 1:1 Chromebook program and our pod is one of these.

The 1:1 Chromebook program is designed to promote development of students who are self-directed and lifelong learners - skills critical for success in a rapidly changing world. As outlined by BC’s new education plan, the focus of this transformation is a movement to personalized learning, supported by quality teaching, flexibility and choice, and high standards.

A Chromebook is a relatively inexpensive laptop that is designed to be used while connected to the Internet, with most programs and data residing “in the cloud”, designed for use with Google Apps for Education. (GAFE)

After an extensive testing process, SD34 is recommending purchase of the Dell or Lenovo chromebooks, which are available for purchase at many stores in Abbotsford. Staples has stepped forward as a business partner providing an exclusive parent purchase program that offers a variety of financing options, extended warranties, and discounted accessories.

CMS will be transitioning to a 1:1 Chromebook environment in phases. Phase 1 has begun this year with 4 pods - approximately 240 students in grades 6 to 8. We expect the 1:1 program to expand over the next 3 years with the potential for full implementation, for all students, anticipated by September 2019.

To help involve as many students as possible in these 1:1 pods, we are asking for you to complete a statement of intention and return this form by October 17th.

Please direct your questions and comments to (indiv teacher name here) Mrs. Born - CMS is very excited to offer this initiative to our families with the expectation that we will use the Chromebook technology to engage students and empower learning. This is not digital immersion - we will still continue to use pencil and paper activities, will restrict use of technology to classroom time, and will still get outside and play.
