Dear STM Junior High Parent/s,

The service hour card was given to students today. The purpose of service hours is to live out Christ’s example by allowing students to perform service to gain experience and knowledge of servant leadership as rooted in Scripture without receiving any recompense. It is worth 30% of your child’s religion grade and it’s graded as a project. This is mandatory and it’s a graduation requirement for all 8th grade students. Each grade is responsible for a different number of hours. Service hours are broken down per trimester to make it a more feasible task. Students may not receive service hours during the school hours of 7:45 a.m.-3 p.m. Students may exceed the amount of hours due per trimester as they roll over for the next trimester.

Student service hours must be fulfilled within ALL three categories:

1.  Service hours performed for STM Church (altar serving, choir, liturgical dancing, coffee and donuts, or any other Church sponsored events).

2.  Service performed for STM School (classroom help, clean up, Halloween Festival set up/break down, Spring Festival clean up/set up/booth or other school-related function).

3.  Volunteer work performed for a charitable organization that seeks to better the community (Meals on Wheels, the St. Francis Center, soup kitchens, senior center, etc.).

LOSS OF SERVICE HOUR PAPER WILL RESULT IN THE LOSS OF THOSE HOURS. ALL HOURS MUST BE REDONE. YOU MAY PRINT OUT ANOTHER COPY THROUGH THE HOMEWORK SITE FOR MY CLASS.
