Class Expectations

  • Respect the class, all students within and the methods to which material is presented.
  • Students will be expected to be on time to class and prepared to begin on the Bell Ringer once tardy bell rings.
  • Students will be expected to be prepared for class everyday which includes the following: a notebook, folder, composition book, pencil and assignment if given the night before.
  • Students will be expected to remain focusedon the class and the content presented at ALL TIMES as well as participating in class when given the opportunity.
  1. Keep hands and feet to yourself at all times
  2. Talking only when given permission
  • Students will learn the basics of algebra and geometry to which they can apply concepts to real-life and prepare themselves for higher levels of mathematics.

Student Objectives

  • The student will demonstrate the ability to think logically and critically.
  • The student will be able to communicate mathematics in oral and written form
  • The student will demonstrate quantitative literacy by interpreting, planning, and solving real-world problems.

Assessments

  • Each student will be given the opportunity to be assessed in a variety of ways such as follows:
  1. Daily Participation / Class discussions b. Quizzes

c. Journal Writing d. Tests

e. Class Activities f. Homework

Materials

  • Notebook/Binder of some kind to do daily work and assignments
  • Composition Book for NOTES and EXAMPLES---May be used on most tests!
  • Scientific Calculator is Recommended (TI-83 or TI-84) BUT NOT REQUIRED---I have a classroom set for work at schoolbut they can NOT be taken home!!
  • Pocket Folder may be useful for keeping up with unit materials (This may be in conjunction with the Binder or Subject notebook)

Homework

  • Homework is EXPECTED.
  • Students will have Homework Quizzes from time to time.

Missing Assignments

  • Each student is responsible for getting make up work. I will try my best to get the material to the student, but it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to approach me at the beginning or end of a class!!!!

Effort

  • Being prepared and providing Effort is a HUGE part of the class. Tests and Quizzes are important, but I do understand that in some cases students do not test well. So put forth the effort and be prepared each and everyday and you will find that the class will not be as stressful as one might think!!!!

Grading

  • Algebra and Consumer Math

TESTS/QUIZZES = 70% of Grade Daily Activities = 20% Comprehensive Final = 10%

  • Geometry Pre-AP

TESTS/QUIZZES = 65% of Grade Daily Activities = 20% Comprehensive Final = 15%
