Things to Try to Ask of Each Teachers You Observe:
1. How “typical” is the activity you’re now observing – i.e., how often does this teacher do these sorts of things with these students?
2. Does this teacher feel that he/she has access to the technology necessary to accomplish his/her curricular goals? (even if the technology is not present in the classroom, is it available when and where it is needed? E.g., are laptop carts available when necessary? Lab time/space? Other devices?)
3. Does this teacher feel adequately supported – both technically and instructionally – to use technology when/where she/he needs such support?
4. Does this teacher feel that students have the tech skills necessary to accomplish the tasks they (students) are attempting to perform?
Additional Questions for Teachers
- How often do you and your students engage in this type of activity?
We want to know if this is a one-off sort of thing or if it happens often…and if there might be some related issues – either technical, practical, curricular, etc. – that impact this frequency.
- Even though this wasn’t what you were doing here today, what sorts of things do you and your students typically do that makes use of technology tools?
- This evaluation is interested in learning about how White Plains students develop 21st Century Skills. Do you feel that your students are developing these skills as they travel through this school? And if so, could you give me an example of one such skill your students (in general) have developed?
- If you could have any technology possible available for your students, what would that be and how do you envision it being used?
- If you yourself (as a teacher) had access to some technology that you currently do not have, what would that be and how would you use it?
- What do you think is the most valuable thing that your students do with the technology they currently have available to them here at school?
