Classroom Notes for Room 30

Week of September 25-29, 2017

Monday is Day #2 of our five-day specials schedule.

Fundraiser- Our only PTO fundraiser was kicked off on Friday. Each student was to bring the envelope home with information of the fundraiser. Some is sold from a brochure, and Yankee Candles are sold online. The kids tell me that the orders are due Monday, Sept. 25th.

Wander Indiana Project- On Friday students took home a packet to keep in a safe place for a year-long project called Wander Indiana. Please look over the project and store the booklet in a safe place. Also, the ‘Parent Awareness’ form on page 4 should be signed and returned to school by this Wednesday, September 27th.

Body Safety- We will learn about body safety on Monday at 12:00 from Sergeant Hall.

Grandparents Day- We will be welcoming MANY grandparents on Friday. Last week I received a list of about 39 grandparents who plan to attend. We will be very crowded in our classroom, but I know we will enjoy every moment. Grade 4 will host grandparents from 1:30-2:15. This is probably not anything that I need to mention, but I hope the grandparents will watch for students without guests and invite them to be pseudo-grandchildren for the time. Feel free to share any good photos!

Parent-Teacher Conference Scheduling- Scheduling for the October 10th and 11th Parent-Teacher Conferences began on Friday, Sept. 22nd. I will have some alternate times available. We hope to have 100% participation. Please sign up early for the best choices!

A Note from Transportation: Rick Pederson, Director of Transportation, shared today that students are not to ride the bus home with a friend. Our buses are very full and cannot accommodate extra students. The only exception is if the parent has contacted the transportation department due to an extenuating circumstance (parents out of the country, etc.).

LifeTouch Photos- Photos will come home on Monday. If you need retakes made, please return the photos to school. I will try to find a retake date for you.

Pizza Hut Book It! Reading Program- We ask your help in expecting outside reading time with a program from Pizza Hut called Book It! Each month, we will send home a calendar to document outside reading time. An adult is needed to initial the times throughout the month. When your child reaches the goal for the month, please return the calendar for a certificate for a personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut. (Coupons expire after 30 days.) I see the program as an expected part of reading. For the month of October, students need to read 250 minutes. Each month, the goal increases by 50 minutes. Calendars are to be returned by the first school day of the next month.

Math Test Access (EL#2- Subtraction)- The class took a Subtraction Test (Math EL#2) on Friday, September 22nd. Some students have not finished the test. When all tests are submitted, I will send the result with your child’s answers through your CHILD’s school email account. The last two questions with decimals were not part of the recorded score in Skyward.
